Phone mount for 2016 S550

I’m looking for phone mount ideas for my 2016 S550. The best solution I have found after vent holders and windshield holders have failed, is the Koomus Pro CD-M Universal CD Slot Magnetic Cradle-less Smartphone Car Mount Holder for $20 off Amazon. The problem is using the CD slot means losing the two cup holders. One solution to that problem is a cup holder that slides in between the seat and the console, which of course would not work for overweight people. The one I like is The Iokone Coin Side Pocket Console Front Seat Organizer Cell Mobile Phone Holder, also $20 on Amazon.

But the best solution I’ve found so far is inserting the CD slot phone holder into the gap next to the command center that the cool light feature comes through. The only problem with this is there’s a ledge in that spot so the phone tilts too far toward the windshield.

Any other ideas?

I assume you're doing this because you don't have Apple Carplay or Android Auto abilities in your model/year car? If so, have you considered looking for one of those devices that adds Carplay or Android Auto to your system? One of the systems I saw a video of was really good -- you just long-press one of the buttons on the console and it switches to the Carplay screen. Long-press again to return to COMAND.

The glossy module that you rest your right palm on (U.S. cars) used to have a good purpose. (Back in the W221 days). W221s had a flip open top where you could dial a number for your phone. I really miss that because I hate the touchpads on the W222 because it always does something I didn't want to do whenever I laid my hand or fingers on it. I went into the menu and deactivated the touchscreen. It's essentially useless for me. I liked it when it was a phone dialing center. Sometimes when you make a call you need to quickly dial an extension #. The way you do it on the big screen doesn't respond fast enough. This means I rarely can keep my phone on the charging pad inside the console. My point is, I have to keep my phone out somewhere I can quickly get to it just I can press in an extension #. Very irritating.

You might want to try the cup holder mount that Weathertech makes.

Thanks. No, my 2016 S550 doesn’t have CarPlay. I’ll have to googled it and I’d love to have it. It would solve my issues. I like to use Waze and from what I understand, CarPlay supports third-party maps. Now, I have to figure out how I can add it to my vehicle.

Also have a 2015 and use iPhone for Waze, stream Amazon Music Unlimited (4 month trial $.99) and so far love it. T

My research shows I cannot add CarPlay to my 2016 S550. Unfortunately, it was not installed in the vehicle when I bought it in 2016. Does anyone know if it is possible to add it? Maybe I missed something. (It’s installed on my iPhone 11pro.)

My existing system lets me stream Spotify using the cord and Media feature. It seems I can do most of what CarPlay does, including having Siri read me my texts, but it’s not as streamlined as CarPlay. Does this seem correct?

Can you add CarPlay to Mercedes S550 if it doesn’t have it?

Do you have the info for the after market part? The research I found suggested that you cannot add CarPlay after the fact. But then I found a Chinese company that claims its device does it. The cost is about $350. I have no idea if this is recommended for Mercedes owners. Please share if you know of an add-on part. Thanks.

It's definitely something you would need a third-party product for. MB is going to advise you against adding any third=party components to your car, because it's their job to say that. It's up to you if you want to try add-ons. Of course, use common sense and look online for reviews of the product you're adding.

With all third-party stuff, I normally recommend that people look for the least-invasive add-ons possible that will accomplish what you want to do -- while also having a way to revert all the changes back to factory condition.

Here's an example I found of CarPlay and Android Auto add-ons, but of course I do not have any personal knowledge of the products (this is just an example): http://www.mercedesmedic.com/unlock-...comand-ntg5s1/

Here's the solution I came up with. I added CarPlay using the Joyeauto solution. I then used:

Mount from KUDA USA (Same for C217 Coupe and W222 Sedan):
http://www2.kudausa.com/kuda_mount_a...14-25-756.html

Pedestal Mount from ProClipUSA:

Iphone Cradle from ProClipUSA:
https://www.proclipusa.com/product/5...ble-attachment

Overall I'm very happy with it. The placement is perfect for having it accessible and visible.

And here are some better quality pics from my phone (without the phone in the cradle).

I hate looking down. My magnetic phone mount is on the left side of the dashboard and hangs down slightly. I have a FITFORT dashboard magnetic mount. I don't have to look down. It's a quick glance to the side. And it doesn't block my infotainment view.
