In general, qualified auto mechanics rates are set by the local market which is why you see such a wide spread geographically.

so out of 258, the mechanic gets a set pay may be like 60/hour so dealer is making 200/hour/mechanic not too bad. Sure mechanics probably gets some incentive as well but at the end of the day, seems like dealer is coming out way ahead of the game.

Remember those service writers make 100k+ in most markets, I am assuming SactownMB is in Sacramento which is a far cheaper place to live than great bay area where I live. I don't know Autobahn Motors exact labor rate but I bet that is in the same boat. The last time I went to a Nissan Dealer here they were $175. My indy just raised his rates from $100 to $125 locally he gets all cars out of warranty....

Good assumption badg45t. I live in the east of Sacramento County up against the foothills of El Dorado County. A beautiful place to live in spite of the politics of Cali. Von Housen had three locations in the area. They have recently been sold to the Envision co. I believe they are located south of LA. The new labor rates are part of the change.

I woudl have figured things would be cheaper in that area, I know several people that live out in El Doroado County, but if someone from LA owns the stealerships that explains the high price.

Angry MB Dealer labor rates

Just had a "b" service for my E class. Labor rate for brake change (2) for 1.5 hour was $318/hour in NJ. ($478 total)

Wow $325 for A is about what the dealership charges! I skipped my last B at Autobahn motors that wanted $1400 and my guy did for $725 including everything they would have done. Since I have an aftermarket warranty (staring to think that was a waste of money) I don't need to go there, but if I need anything repaired I plan to go back there.

Have brought my E63s twice to MB dealer here in KY for yearly services

First visit at 43K miles and the second one, a year later (last march) at 48K andon both occassions was charged $430 basically for what, an oil change and I guess an Inspection.
I was suppose to bring it back again this March '24 for another yearly at 51K but decided against it for the following reasons

last year visit requested them to check the Cam sensors for oil infiltration, was told everything good and out of curosity this time decided to check them myself... found all screws pretty tight and even heard the seals breaking when I turned them lose ----dealer probably never bothered with them
Ran into a YT video regarding air filter change so decided to check mine too-----pictures attached---- wonder at what service do dealers check the air filters?
Oil change--- same YT channel showed how easy it was to change the oil and since I have a lyft at home, decided to do it myself.

Will bring the car in to the dealer for a brake fluid flush and get an inspection at that time

Not worth $430 for an oil change only

I assume that E63 is more to service than a regular S550 as my service was only $340 for A service. The service on these cars are super expensive, the pre-paid worked out for me big time!! I paid $2,500 and got nearly 4500 in services.

If I had a shop like that at my house, my car would never see the dealer of the indy. Nice shop!!

Labor costs in every trade have always varied from area to area. It's the nature of economic law.

Even in the same area. Here the labor rates are really different even among dealers that are within 20 miles of each other. Even two dealers from the same franchise.

Euro Motorcars for instance has a location in Germantown, MD and Bethesda, MD. Germantown is actually more expensive despite being in a much cheaper part of town.

You guys will love this ... the Austin area just got a third Mercedes dealer. I went by to visit one day and was told their labor rate is $295 per hour!

The Service Manager volunteered that he was told the new facility was the most costly Mercedes dealership in the United States. Costly as in the cost of the facility, land, construction, finish out, etc.

Costs vary greatly in different areas of Florida. I have tried many different mb dealers in Florida for service. Some areas are double the price. I learned my lesson a long time ago it’s worth it to travel some extra time. Could mean the difference between paying 600 dollars for a service A vs 300 dollars. Even more of a $$$ difference with service B.

Nice you have a choice - the closest three dealers to me are all 1 1/2 hours away; the next one over 2 1/2 hours. I was given the name of what is touted to be a top grade independent as close as the nearer dealers.

I just called my local Mercedes-Benz of West Houston and the official labor rate per hour is $265.

FYI: Local Mazda charges upwards of $195/hr shop rate.
All brands are going up and charging crazy amounts for techs that barely making $20-30/hr

The oil change guys are only making (depending on area) $15/hr

Makes for a lot of OVERHEAD money and profit.
