For those of you who got this recall completed, can you give me a feel on how long it took in the shop, and how intrusive the remedy was (as in how much disassembling)? I am worried about intrusive fixes; hence I would like to make sure I understand what I am walking into with the next service.

@salamigs The whole process shouldn't take more than 1 day. But it all varies on how busy your local Mercedes dealership is. I would recommend calling your service advisor and they would be able to give you a more accurate timeframe.

In terms of the scope of recall, it's not intrusive. They are simply replacing screws/caps to reinforce the oil drain ports.

Take home message: I would rather have the recall performed rather than having to worry about potential issues later on with an oil leak (which can leave you stranded on the road, or even worse, a blown engine).

I had the same mindset when I went there this morning, but sadly they did not have the parts. It apparently is a 30-60min job overall, and you are right it is not intrusive (they generously explained it to me in detail). We will get it done when they have the parts.

Thank you for your response.

Totally different experience

Took our 2018 S560 in for the oil plug recall today. Arrived for my appointment at 9 AM. Asked how long it would take and they said it should be ready around 3:30. Received a phone call from service at 11 Am and they informed me it was going to take "much longer and anticipated". Proceeded to tell me it was "deep inside the engine" and 4 gaskets were required to do the job. I suggested they just let it go until the next scheduled service and they said "you don't want to do that". "If it were to fail the results would be catastrophic". It's an hour and fifty-minute drive for me one way to my dealer. So tonight I'm at home with a loaner and will be waiting for a call from service tomorrow morning as to when I can pick it up. So 8 hours of driving and two days to get our recall accomplished. Hope others do not have a similar experience.

To the dealer's credit, they offered to have the car delivered to our home and return the loaner but I've never been a fan of letting anyone, other than my wife, drive our vehicles.

Can someone who has had the recall done please post a copy of the service invoice with their personal information removed/redacted? Thanks.

It looks like fun33's experience is not matching merclux's experience. Or am I jumping to the flawed conclusion that you have already got this service done on your affected vehicle merclux?

Don't know if this helps. Just shows RECALL/Campaign performed under warranty. Appears 3 parts were used. No information as to how many shop hours were required

Thank you for this information. At least the first part seems to be way deep in the engine bay, and I wonder how they can get to it without major disassembly. Part 350 in the below figure. And I was told the oil need not be drained for this, but I do not see how that is possible.

Although the link below indicates it is a 0.5hour job...
FILE: (oemdtc.com)
and if the access from the bottom as per the below document provides an easy way to get there, may be that is right...

@salamigs My experience was not harsh like what @fun33 had to go through. The Mercedes-Benz official service bulletin states that the job should only take 0.5 hours as @konigstiger stated. I came in at 10AM, dealership gave me a loaner to go to work, and I was able to pick up the vehicle same day after I got off from work.

Perhaps the service center that @fun33 had a backlog of cars - and it was easier just to say the recall was harder than expected? Only person that knows the truth is the person who actually worked on said vehicle.

I think the real problem was they were unable to load the navigation update I had requested be done at the same time as the recall. When I was told I could pick up my car the following day, the service department did not tell me until I arrived, they still had not gotten the map update to install but the recall had been fixed. They then told me Mercedes was sending the dealership a "new" map update that would arrive in 3 days. They said you can return whenever you want, we can install the new map update while you wait. Just great !!!! It's nearly a 2 hour drive each way from my home to the dealership in horrible Florida traffic. They did offer to have their staff pick up my car and redeliver it - no way in the world will I ever let a stranger drive any of my cars for four hours.

Would have been so much easier if the dealer had just told me about the map problem over the phone. I would have gladly left the car with them for 5 days to have all the work I requested done at one time. The repetitive crappy treatment of Mercedes to its customers is so annoying. I love our 2 Mercedes cars, I really detest going to their service departments.
