Sport Mode or Eco Mode

I have had my 14’ S550 for a month now. Driving in Eco mode was great at first but always seemed like the mpg was atrocious. Then changed it to Eco throttle and Sport suspension because the car would bounce so much. Mileage still bad. Over a week or so, feels like a struggle to accelerate from a stop.

Been driving in Sport/Sport for the last couple of weeks and mileage has improved a lot. The range on my tank goes up about 20-40 miles a few minutes after switching to Sport. Not to mention shifting is smoother. Anyone else experience this?

Anyway for the car to default to Sport mode when I start the car and does continuous Sport mode driving cause any premature wear and tear on the engine, trans, or suspension?

Driving in Eco mode is not good for me at all. It hesitates and drives like crap. I always press the button to put it in Sport mode as soon as I get in the car. Gas is cheap as heck right now so who cares? I only drive my car in Sport mode and gas mileage be damned. It's perfectly fine to always drive your car in Sport mode for sure. No premature wear on anything. It's what your car was built to do.

I use sport for the engine mapping and suspension in my W222 just as I did in my previous W220. Recently I took my car to the dealer for mbrace programming, and I asked about changing the default from Eco to Sport while the tech was in there. I was told that federal regulations forbade them from doing it, but he advised that there are aftermarket programmers who can do this. Since the suspension retains its setting, I'm fine with changing the engine mode each time.

I am getting 24-25 MPG in my 2015 S-600 highway and 20.2 MPG long term average since I bought the car in 2015.

What do you consider "atrocious" mileage ?
