And if used and then sold

The transferable warranties also add value at resale. If I were to sell my car in three years with 40k more miles covered over few years, that buyer will feel great knowing a ten year old car they are buying is still under warranty, and it will be “free” as they don’t have to pay but do get charged in the increased sale price. My specific goal is to sell it with one year left and 20,000 miles which will mean it has 100,000 miles on it. The buyer will then have a year to sort out what will otherwise be a meticulously maintained vehicle hopefully getting me top dollar for a 100k mike car.

I also like how some use the fact that warranty companies make money show that it’s a losing proposition for the customer. It’s actually not a losing proposition for all customers, only some and that’s why vehicles that are very expensive are often excluded and if you can find the right deal it means that this company might be using this vehicle as a loss leader to drag you into other sales that might be winners for them, cause you know business is not just one thing all the time (and no let’s not go into efficiencies and the pin and pin head.

Hate to tell you this, but an older S class with 100K miles on it is worth next to nothing, regardless of warranty status. Banks are hesitant to loan any money against them and you end up selling it for 10-15K after a long painful process of selling your car to the 10-15K crowd. Warranties are a suckers bet. I compare it to the casino's in vegas. The vast majority that go there lose money, very few actually leave with more money than they came with. The insurance company is the casino, and they do not build those casinos on christian fellowship.

I recently picked up a Diamond Coverage warranty from CarShield. It provides indefinite new car coverage for vehicles < 50K miles. Although I still have two years remaining on my CPO warranty, I thought it best to pick up the contract right now while my car was still eligible.

My coverage (month-to-month) is $109.

I got the Mercedes extended warranty for my 2012 e350 conv back then, it was $1900 from here and it more than paid for itself. Think it was 7 years 75k miles. Just bought a new e450 conv and plan on doing the same thing if it’s still possible. Can somebody answer the OP’s question?

What is the point of the Mercedes extended if it only covers 3 extra years....

What third party did you find, I’ll be happy to take a look.

Call Autopom. They are a great broker and only use reliable companies. Avoid those 1800 companies, especially endurance. I have a 8 year extension on mine as I bought with low miles and when under factory warranty.

Jeff Jackson at Tafel Mercedes in Louisville KY. JJackson@mblouisville.com

This is who I used for my other car. Easy. He also does prepaid maintenance apparently, but I’m not sure how that works.

Update: This guy already responded with pricing for both options. 7/75 is $2150 and 7/100 is $3200. That's as high as they go. Prepaid maintenence saves a few hundred as well, but must be under 1 year old and under 10K miles. Just fyi.

I forget her name but if you do a search two names always come up. It was out of state to me but took 2 minutes over the phone. These are approx but fairly close, local wanted $3800 I paid $2500 3year extended. 2015 s550 had 25k.

I asked local dealer after and they said they might have been able to match it.

Im not getting into the debate its a personal decisions as to you level of risk. I will say some dealers are a lot better at warranty work then others. I have one dealer who puts everything through even a set of front rotors. Remember the warranty also helps with resale. A Starmark warrantied car without dealer mark up sells quickly.

Yes but I have a rare car with high costs

But this is not the case for me. mine will be a ten year old e63 wagon of which 59 were made and will carry at least a 25k value. You must not put all people and cars in the same box. Will the value increase with the warranty attached? Would you pay more or less for two exact cars except one has warranty? 100% of us would believe the warranty was a good thing on a ten year old amg. So could I worry less upon resale? That also has value, to me. And an s class is the same for others as my car is to me. A ten year old s or sl or higher end e or c is absolutely going to gain value at sale with a warranty.

I actually go to casinos knowing the odds, omg. And when I buy any item in any way, I also realize the seller may potentially profit. Surely we are not all buying these nice cars for free, because you know, Mercedes makes profit, and they have algorithms and they have loss leaders and they have more and less profitable items they sell, just like the warranty companies. Let’s just answer warranty questions with a lead when they are asked in reference to buying. If someone asks the economic risk of a warranty, maybe then all the naysayers can think they have a clue. Willingness to pay, efficiencies, risk, are all really simple theories that we all use everyday. If one persons willingness is different than yours, it is likely because they VALUE costs and benefits differently than you do. How many steaks would I want in return for a fish stick, they are not equal value, I do not eat steak, but you may think my fish stick is less valueable than the steak, but that would be to you, or a greater market, but not me. So for me my warranty is your fish stick, but my steak.

I said nothing about an E63. It is a pretty well known fact that any 10 year old S class with over 100K miles is not worth much, warranty or not.

All (100%) of extended warranties I have ever seen do NOT cover batteries in any way. They are considered a 'wear and tear' item. are you sure you're actually covered? (or are you referring to ELW)?

As to extended waranty on an S class that is a DD, change 4 struts, 2 motor mounts and 1 transmission mount and you are even. Your driving environment will dictate when all that occurs so translate that how you choose.

Knock on wood, in my years of MB ownership, my repairs have been limited to the above plus suspension components. No electrical or computer issues. After market warranty for me has paid off.

Hi All,

After much investigation I just concluded a 7Yr 75000 mile ELW (3 additional years/ total 75000 mile after standard MB warranty) with Casandra Castro

Casandra was Finance Mgr @ International Autos Inc Milwaukee (they sell MB and a number of other brands) but, as of tomorrow 8/4 she is moving to Mercedes Benz of Elmbrook (exclusive MB) as the Finance Mgr.

She offered the best price of the 5 dealers I priced (including my own dealer) on both a 7/75 and 7/100 MB ELW.

She is also great to deal with...few mins on the phone and paperwork emailed...all set.

She can be reached at her new home (Mercedes Benz of Elmbrook) as of Tuesday 8/4 @ 262-821-5000
email: ccastro@mbofelmbrook.com

I told Casandra I would be posting her contact info and she is looking forward to working with any and all MBWorld members.

I still think you would have better off with a third party warranty with longer term and better coverage

Why not post the actual prices you got from her so people can decide for themselves if it's a good price? Saves them from having to make one more call.

In general, 3rd party warranties cost more and tend to have more restrictions, they tend to get pushed more because the dealers get a bigger commission on them. Some of them require inspections by a 3rd party inspector and some only approve used parts or aftermarket parts or have a habit of denying claims or going out of business. So you have to be very careful which ones you use. What are ones that are actually recommended? While I agree that you can get longer coverage, better coverage is debatable.

Ask the service department reps at your local Mercedes dealer which third party warranty companies pay them with no issues.

CarShield is awesome too. If I were to post the multiple page contract outlining what they cover with my Diamond package, you wouldn’t believe it.

Well... Post it... We are all waiting MB Extended Warrantee basically covers nothing... I posted mine... no one reads the fine print, and if they do, they don't understand it. Also, your Extended Warrantee Company will dictate what they will pay. They look up clock hours, part and Rate. Dealer may say it takes 3.5 hours @ $165-hr, Warrantee company knows its should take 2 @ $135- Hr Good luck with that.... Been there, done that....

This comment reminded me that on the service ticket for the warranty work that was done, the dealer had the note: "Make sure parts quote are at MSRP for Extended Warranty"

As an fyi for those that have not read through the entire thread, on post 24 I posted details of my Fidelity Platinum warranty, including the exclusion paragraph.

I always just went with the Genuine Mercedes Warranty and never really had any issues. They have gotten a lot more expensive though the last 6 years or so.

Hello everyone - Just purchased a 2014 S550 with 21k miles on it. I am shopping for a warranty and reading all I can here. The one item that I am seeing excluded from all the service contracts I am receiving is the shock absorbers. Has anyone successfully had their airmatic replaces with a third party warranty?

Also, any updated warranty recs would be much appreciated! Thank you

The majority will not cover air struts. You do have low mileage, so there should not be a problem getting great coverage. Check with Autopom as they use many different high rated administrators. They may have one that will cover the air struts. Some of the factory like coverages can only signed up while the car is in factory warranty, so up to four years -the best time is right before it ends - but your low mileage is a super advantage for coverage and cost.
