Just came across sales figures for the S-Class Maybach and they have been actually quite impressive.
45,000 units sold since 2015. In 2018 (facelift model), every 7th S-Class sold was a Maybach model.
For a specialty car, that is pretty incredible...
Total original Maybach 57 & 62 sales over a 10 year period was 3000 units. I read that Mercedes lost 330,000 Euros per vehicle...
Btw, the new Maybach S600 SUV's is now offered in Germany...
2020 S560 Sedan, 2019 SL450, 2019 E450 Luxury Trim Wagon, '24 BMW I7 on order...

That is actually ASTONISHING! Just WHERE are all of these Maybach’s selling? New York City? London, Paris, Beijing? I sure don’t see them much at all in Southern California. Honestly, the number of them I have ever seen on the road I could count on both hands.

Where we live, sales are slow but they are moving.
Found this info: The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Saloon set a new sales record in 2019, driven in particular by its success in China and double-digit growth in that market. Since the market launch in 2015, approximately 500 of these exclusive luxury automobiles have been delivered every month to customers in China alone. In 2019, deliveries increased to more than 700 units per month.
I absolutely abhorred the first Maybachs that sold in the 2002-? era based on the W220 which was a terrifying mess. I almost bought one in 2017 as it was not but $20K more than my 2017 S63. Very impressive automobile based upon the W222.
I have never seen one on the road lol. Definitely used for shuttle and hotel service. I cannot wait until these S550 4Matic ones comes down in price! I really would love to buy one used as they are a HUGE bargain! I mean for the price of a new C Class you will be able to buy one of these! Amazing sales numbers!
Yes, when I was in Sindelfingen 2 years ago they were building so many on the production line, I was really surprised, thinking... when do I even see one here in the DC area, hardly ever.
That is very impressive! I would imagine that China accounts for a very large share of them.
I’ve only seen a few and I got to sit in one. Lovely car and astounding stereo.
I wonder if this success will see an expansion of the model line. It’s a shame only Maybach gets the V12 now as not everybody wants the extremely long wheelbase. Now a V12 Maybach the length of a normal S, or a V12 Maybach coupe would be pretty sweet!

do the dealers discount these more (%-wise) than the standard s-class? i cant imagine anyone paying anywhere close to $100,000 (s650) more than a well-equipped s560 for one of these. there doesn't appear to be anymore dealer cash available - so other than loyalty cash - that leaves only dealer contribution (and maybe fleet?). will a dealer offer more than triple-net to move these?

I don’t think so. I believe, for the most part, these are customers who just play at that next level and the price seems reasonable, when compared to Bentley, Rolls-Royce, etc. I just can’t imagine driving one on my own. I think the Maybach is a great car to be driven in, but not to drive yourself. It’s all about riding in the rear seat.
Maybe so but what I was referring to was the interior design was that of a W220.
Well, there were some similarities but that's about it IMO. I think of that more as the design language of the time...
I can say that these cars beat the RR Phantom on luxury at the time. The car also didn't drive half bad and most important, the development of the Maybach gave us a glorious Twin Turbo V12, which lives on until today in updated form
Dated looking but the craftsman ship was top notch, including the wood selection, matching and hand polishing. Some of that experience also made it into the W222 S-Class as options

Beautiful. A friend of mine had a 08 57S. The build quality is top notch! The ride and comfort was incredible. I remember him telling me how he begged MB to make him a custom Maybach AMG but they would not do it.

No alcantara btw. Maybachs used actual suede which was both beautiful and stupid as suede is no friend of grease, human or otherwise.
Mercedes gave us this car for a week from one of their Maybach dealers. This was a new presentation car. Very common color combo at the time. I loved the wood (this was very similar to the wood in our mocha black designo W220). The wood did look more subtle in real life but such was the tech of digital cameras 17 years ago...
Personally not a fan of the gray or black interiors as they are a bit boring. Again, tastes vary
