W222 fan

Hi has any one had a problem with their W222 main fan coming on really loud. It seems to happen when I’m in traffic, the engine temp is 90 degrees. I was wondering if it’s anything to do with the gearbox overheating as it only happens after I’ve been in traffic( up and down the gears ) this happens at at all ambient temperatures. The car sat for a few months and only started to keep the battery functioning. I’ve had the gearbox serviced but that hasn’t worked. Just wondering if it’s something simple it happens with or without the air conditioning on🤷🏻‍♀️It never happened before only on hot days but know anytime the gearbox has a lot of use.

The fan controller could be faulty. Get a good scan!!

it’s been plugged in a few times and they say nothing wrong but it’s very loud like a jet turbine sometimes but never when they are looking at it. 🤷🏻‍♀️As I say it never happened before but happens all the time now 🤬. If I drive it normally. Short distance up and down the motorway it’s ok it only happens when the gearbox is working harder than normal. 🤔

Reluctant to provide VIN, MBUSA released a service campaign for MY 2014-2015 222 requiring no cost replacement depending on fan production date, capacitor in control unit intermittently malfunctions.

As mentioned capacitor in the radiator fan control unit “could intermittently malfunction” this will not always store fault code(s). If there are no codes first have battery/charging system checked afterward you may need to take a wait and see approach. If budget allows you can proactively have fan (part # 0999060512) replaced but this is your call.

If 2015050004 is applicable to your VIN Service Campaigns & Recall Campaigns do not expire even out of warranty / unlimited mileage.
