I purchased and installed the GTACarKits version and it has worked very well for me. They also have a YouTube video for the install that really helped me. It took about 2 hours in total to install.

Hey thanks for posting the detailed step by step guide for the after market carplay installation.
I just had a few follow up questions
1) could you please share the YouTube videos you're referring to?
2) did you notice any other quirks with the system since you've been using it?
I am really bad at diy things and trying to find a member in this forum in CA who has done it before who can help or a auto shop who can help but so far no luck. I have also not seen a detailed yet video to give me enough confidence that I could do it myself. Good to know that you recommended against the joyeauto system

Question for you guys...
With the newest software, is the external mic still needed for the Joyeauto unit? It seems the Roadtop unit doesn't require this, but I can't find one compatible with the W222.

Everything was easy for me just like you've said except I used this module https://thecarplayer.com/products/ap...a0d9911e&_ss=r

I am going to get the Indowork unit. These guys really know what they're doing.
My question is, with the base audio system... do I need the Aux adapter or OBD aux activator, or both?? Is there an advantage to one or the other??
Thanks,
Cyrus

You actually have to install Apple Music on an android phone to get it to work through the usb ports. You can use any streaming service.... as long as Apple Music is installed on an Android phone.

here's the roadtop unit (second gen, much smaller and easier to fit under the car's carpet) - dedicated to w222 (pre-facelift at least).
the kit comes with all things you will need to install, including the usb line-in dongle, which you can replace with ANY USB DAC if you like (I was experimenting with two models, including sound blaster DAC which surprisingly worked - and I noticed no difference, so kept the no-name model I received with the unit).
you can choose to activate aux in the unit's menu - it will not do anything, except maybe you will have ability to switch to the unit's audio either via MEDIA or AUX on the menu. But in both cases the audio is redirected via USB line in device you have. There is no line-in in NTG5 afaik and you need to go with this USB device.

everything was in this thread earlier - the early generation units required a separate mic to work, so you were replacing the awesome MB BT connectivity with poor quality Mic. Latest generation works awesome by leveraging OE Bluetooth system, so as long as you are paired with your car's BT, you are going to use it.
