Quote: I don’t know how in the world it could be a “production error.” I cant believe that part could fit anything other than a W222. A change was obviously made, most likely due to a supplier problem, of which there are many these days.
The W222 S450 has a black plastic threshold like that, the 560 gets the chrome one. What looks like happened here is the 450 part was used.

I think it would be worth to get in touch with the dealer and have them replace the trim piece. The plastic looks a bit on the cheap side. Just check out the other S560's in the show room first, find one with the chrome strip and show them what you have missing. If all the ones are plastic too then you know it is a production change.

Then I stand corrected. I will look into this. Thank you for that info.

No problem. Its the only trim difference I have found between the 450 and the 560. No matter how a 450 is configured it always seems to have that black plastic threshold.

Today, I took the car into the dealer to have the tires swapped out and I mentioned the trunk plate to my SA. Sure enough, you were right, it was a production error and the dealer replaced the plastic plate with a chrome one. He couldn’t believe he had one in stock and neither could I. Thanks again for your help with this.

I just checked my 2019 S560 and it has the chrome one. Glad you got it swapped out.

Streamliner, I'll have to grab a pic of my S550e's trunk space, I have the smallest trunk optioned car available, LOL. Rear seating package, Burmester 3D sub, comfort box tray, and the Hybrid battery pack which adds an additional 450lbs... I can barely fit anything in there. I believe about 9 cubic feet of cargo capacity. Congrats on the 2020 560 model. Lovely upgrades compared to your 2018 as well. Enjoy
