I'm very happy with my S450, there is for sure a difference in power between the two, but once you ar cruising the highway it doesn't matter. The only other thing that I noticed is the base leather in the 560 is an upgrade not the base leather in the 450, not that there is anything wrong with what I have. otherwise, the options are what they are, and can be the same on both. More oomph and nicer interiors do seem to be more common in the 560s that I have looked at.

I would not worry about reliability with either engine.
To me its not about power, its about feel. The 450 has plenty of power, but its not as refined or effortless as the 560, the 560 just feels "right" for the type of vehicle. I felt the same way when I drove the W223 S500 vs S580. One acceleration and its just "nope" to me.
