Thank you,
Some guys here, myself included, feel that bigger wheels simply make these cars suffer in the ride quality category. Being an absolute ride quality freak, I’m at one extreme, having 18” wheels on my S560. Most guys go for the 19’s, some go for 20’s, but almost nobody goes any larger. I believe—but do not know for sure—that your tire selection is very limited with the larger wheels as well.

No more MB:(
Personally, 19" is my absolute limit and 18" optimal. The S is all about the experience so ride quality is paramount. Anything greater than 19" and the ride changes. Furthermore, should you be driving on run flats, there is a good chance you will go through some tires with 20" or more.

I was looking at a nice 2016 on Autotrader the other day with 22s! Actually looked pretty sharp, but with the street conditions where I live, you'd have to be kidding

Most people I know who have aftermarket wheels on the S Class have 20s or 22s. I have 20" Vossens which to me seem a bit small on such a 'bulky' car, I have a European friend with the same Vossens but in 22s on his 63 and they seem too big and 100% have a 'worse' ride, I think 21s would be the perfect size and will probably get the factory 21s on the new S Class. As Hyperion said though, the wheel choice is limited at 21.
