I thought the same thing! Audiosource makes mid-fi (at best!) home audio equipment. Audiocontrol makes car audio amps, and I think that's the brand being referred to here. I don't know anything about Audiocontrol's products in terms of quality, though. I'm not very up to speed on the car audio aftermarket brands.

My mistake and fixed, yes the brand is audio control
Removing the trunk panels wasn’t too bad. I used an interior trim panel tool to gently lift the center of the plastic fasteners, and a Torx bit to remove the screws. The chrome threshold pops straight up with a good pull from the inside bottom edge. Comfort box comes out with 2 large twist retainers. Floor tub lifts out after floor door is removed.

Here’s the trunk back together minus the back seat trim panel. The metal bracket in the middle with 2 holes goes around the cubby, which is currently removed to try as a pass through. The holes in the bracket are for the trim retainers used to secure the panel, but I might use them from the inside of the car to secure the box.

Picked up some 4 gauge wire this afternoon and spend a few hours on my wana3d upgrade revision 2 installing the new audiocontrol amp and JL audio sub/box. The car sounds amazing, and actually made me giggle many times. Just wow, plays so low and clean with no issue getting lots of sound into the car. Regular fm radio at moderate volume finally sounds nice and full, but it really pounds and goes right through you when turned up especially with iPod or movie sound tracks. Love it. Tried many different types or music and nothing phased it, making me want to listen more and more. My wife was in the house and said it sounded good in there too lol. Now just waiting for the rotary 3D tweeters to arrive and I’ll be done for a while.

Looks great! I'm going to try removing that rear panel and taking out that little cubby and seeing if that helps get more of mine into the cabin.

Yeah the panel is pretty dense and about 3/16” thick so could cause an insulation effect. I could try putting it back in just to compare, but I can’t see the open area now anyways so doesn’t matter at this point.
Here is the audiocontrol amp with the cover plate now installed, hiding all the adjustments. I was skeptical at first, pretty amazing how small and powerful today’s class D amplifiers are. Compared to back in the day, something with this power rating would have been 20” long lol.

Class D amps. There's some give and take there, but the way to maximize the pros and minimize the cons (IMHO) is to use them for subwoofer duty only.

Safe and Sound in Chantilly. They were okay, got very little guidance from them and doing it over again I would have done a separate box and amp which they talked me out of doing. Good place if you know exactly what you want and just direct them, not great if you actually want expertise and guidance.

Those do look great. Ill be interested to hear if there is any perceived difference in sound quality. Im thinking it would hard to differentiate from stock. And do they spin and pop out like the factory ones? I am curious, thanks

Another forum member who installed these and tested before and after with a spectrum analyzer did observe some high frequency gain.
They do rotate out like a factory 3D tweeter, but I haven’t installed them yet.
Update: I installed them this afternoon, looks and sounds good. I do think they’re slightly brighter sounding than the originals which is fine. Installation was plug play, unplug a few things and plug in the included harness. There’s also a separate small module that I had to find a spot to mount, mounted that next to the stock door control module.
They illuminate with the rest of the ambient lighting in same color and brightness, and rotate out when the car is on or started up. So far I’m quite pleased! I got them on Amazon from another member’s link for $373, but I see them for sale on eBay also a little cheaper. Took about 3 weeks to arrive so I’m glad they worked with no issues.

Hmmm, is this an OEM part? Regardless, there is so much DSP, EQ etc. happening in the Burmester amp that I have to think that it is tuned for the factory tweeter. So if the replacement tweeter has greater sensitivity than the one you replaced, you'll have brighter highs....or if the response is different, the EQ curve built into the system could lead to a completely different response than the one targeted.

I don’t know if oem or aftermarket. I wonder if all these 3D tweeters being sold are leftover Mercedes stock that were purchased and modified to use in non 3D cars. Hard to imagine these being copied and built from scratch to sell, but they’re from China so can’t rule out the possibility. These are a little brighter than stock but not so much where I’d think the impedance is different.
We took delivery of a GLE63 coupe with 3D sound today which also sounds great. Maybe I’ll try to figure out a way to get some mids in my S doors next.
Update: Well that didn’t last long, passenger side tweeter no longer rotating the full 180 a little bit ago. Contacted seller and waiting to hear back, meanwhile I will remove and attempt to troubleshoot. I only cycled the power a few times to test last night, then drove the car this morning and it was fine. Now this afternoon only moves a tiny bit, so less than 24 hrs. Not sure if it’s going to be a mechanical binding issue or electronic.
Yet another update: took the tweeter out to inspect and had noticed the clocking of the f logo was off maybe 60•. Took apart the motor and gear housing to find it was hanging up, so I set that properly, adjusted the coiled up speaker lead, and seems to be working fine now. I’ll see how it behaves for a couple days before saying all good lol

Front door speakers are 3.5" single voice coil drivers. That is the problem, you really need a 5" or larger driver up front. I am using the two 8" subs in the front as more of a mid bass to try and compensate for some of this.

The tweeter in the sail panel is 1” soft dome I think. The grille below it houses a 4” midrange. There are also a pair of 8” woofers in the foot area of the firewall, and 3D cars have a 6” in the doors.

Ya, pretty amazing if they are knock off's how much those look like the real deal 3D tweeters. On my car with the 3D the speakers on the top of the door panels look to be the same 3.5 inch speakers used on the non 3D cars but it does have lower speakers in the doors that look to be only around 4 inches or so. I'd say those are mid bass speakers at best. Probably with the extra power of the 3D system it hits up the under dash subwoofers with more power in addition to the subwoofer in the trunk. No complaints at all with the 3D system. I was listening to some Greg Alman today and the mid bass is excellent, bsss amazing and clarity and sound stage is great. I generally run it in the "LIVE" setting, which I think sounds the best. 3D just does not have very good sound stage and the Surround settings sound kinda murky and not as well defined.

It would be great to know if anyone has replaced the midrange driver in the door? is it 3.5 or 4" What is maximum depth? Im sure the foolproof way is to remove door panel and pull one out. I don't drive the car for three or four days at a time, I suppose I could pull panel, verify and order speaker right then. The spin out tweeters sure do look cool.....maybe a good time to do those while panels are off?? I did start a new thread here with my sub install. I have noticed that with the new sub, once I adjust the cars EQ settings it is now the front door speaker that sounds like it is the weak link. Mercedes needs to do a better job on these sound systems!! The system in my Volvo S90 was much better as was the base Bose in my 2014 A8. For the supposed ultimate sedan........poor showing

Don't you just love the little spinning speakers? Wonder if they'll do anything more exciting in the 223 What could be more exciting than that little spin?
