Massive Recall Starting In April

Vehicles recalled: 1,292,258 vehicles from the 2016 to 2021 model years, including certain CLA-Class, GLA-Class, GLE-Class, GLS-Class, SLC-Class, A-Class, GT-Class, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, CLS-Class, SL-Class, B-Class, GLB-Class, GLC-Class, and G-Class models.

The problem: The software design of the communication module may fail to send the correct vehicle location for the emergency call system (eCall) in the event of a crash.

The fix: The communication module software will be updated by a dealership or over the air, depending on the model. The repair will be performed at no charge.

How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may call MBUSA customer service at 877-762-8267.

One of the articles says that if you have Mercedes Me, the update will occur over-the-air:

That'd be nice to avoid a dealer visit.

Does every car have eCall service, or only those who opted in to embrace or similar optional service ....

My understanding is that all cars are affected.

On our last car, I hit that button once by mistake and got some kind of message saying we didn't have a Verizon account. That's why I wondered if the recall would only be of interest to those who were signed up for an optional service.

My letter from MB received back in January...I've done nothing about it yet. Not sure this is the same due to year variance.

Never mind ... I see now two different activities, one for 13 - 17 and one for 17 and newer ...
