GoodYear VS Pirelli

Hi,

I was looking at S560 Maybach on Autotrader and noticed that almost all of them came with Goodyear tires as Original Factory. Does this mean that Goodyear is quieter than Pirelli? I have to get new shoes for my S560 and want to stick with RFT. The wheel size is 20. Thanks for sharing your opinion.

No....it means that MB has a contract with Goodyear for run-flat tires.

2019 S63 4Matic+, 2018 E400 Cabrio, wardens car.
I have had both Pirelli and Michelin and the Michelins are by far more quiet. Even in the RFT model. The best I have found is the Michelin AS 3+ non RFT, they transform the car. YMMV

I Think it depends more on tread design then anything and well each brand has many different model tires with many different tread design and other differences.
So to say one brand is quieter then another is not fair unless you state the tire model, size, speed rating, load rating etc.

I had Goodyear run flats for 20,000 miles and just put on Michelin Pilot Sport 4 ZP run flats. So far very happy with them. And they are quieter but then any new tire will be quieter than a worn one.

Why Mercedes uses anything other than Michelin tires is just beyond me. I love Michelin tires non run flat and I feel the ride is fantastic. My ML had Pirelli and the ride was harsh and then switched to Michelin on 18’s and what a world of difference.

Good luck with the purchase of the Maybach. They are incredible!

I was a diehard Michelin fan—and still am to a point—but when Bridgestone came out with their Serenity tire, designed specifically to be ultra quiet and soft riding, I tried a set. I was hooked within a few miles. That was several cars ago. Since then, the Serenity was replaced by the Serenity Plus and then, about a year ago, was redesigned and renamed QuietTrack. I have them on my S560 with 18” wheels and they are the most quiet and most comfortable tires I have ever owned on any car. In addition, handling is superb, not that I drive the big saloon like a sports car.

When I replaced the run flats on my SL450, I wanted the QuietTrack tires, but they are not made in the appropriate sizes, so I went with Michelin A/S3+ and am very happy with them.

Oh, and I almost forgot: I put Bridgestone QuietTrack tires on my wife’s E450 Wagon as well.

I don’t mind repeating that I have only purchased Michelin’s over the 27 years I have driven Mercedes until I opted out of the run flats and purchase the Bridgestone quiettracks

They are the most quiet tires and also the smoothest ride I have ever experienced in my Mercedes

The brand doesn't matter as much as the model tire. I always ran Pirelli Cinturato P7 Plus and Plus II on my LS460s, they were extremely soft and comfortable tires. They dont come in my S560s size. I replaced my Continental RunFlats with Michelin Primacy Tour A/S non run flats which I returned because of a strange sidewall design, and now have Michelin Primacy MXM4 non run flats. The Pirelli Cinturatos are softer and quieter, although these are fine.

They do make the Cinturato P7 RunFlat which is an OEM tire on the S Class, and also the Michelin Primacy MXM4 Run Flat. Ive driven the car new on both tires and they feel very similar.

Those Bridgestone QuietTracks are only available on the 18" size for the S Class.
