Permanently remove front brake disc shields.

For last 3 years I've been plagued with tiny stones getting trapped between the front brake discs and the brake disc shield.

It makes a terrible noise and reversing backwards at speed rarely dislodges it, so end up having to take the wheel off and remove the stone.

Main reason for this is due to my gravel drive way where I park the car for weeks at a time. I try to remember to move the car back a slight bit and get out and brush off the stones stuck in the tyre threads. Sometimes as many at 15 -20 can be stuck to the tyre.

Just today again I forgot to brush the stones off the tyre and had to leave my w222 at home taking my other car as a stone got trapped again. Its happening once a month now.

Eventually I will be paving my drive but for now but that's a few years off.

I'm thinking to remove both front brake disc shields, I'm sure they serve some purpose but is it safe to remove them?

I think they're just there to collect brake dust, but I'm not sure.

Not a good idea to remove them. They protect the brake lines and other hardware.

Yeah I since had a bit of a rethink on this one, If I was ever in an accident due to brake failure or damage to the braking system Im sure my insurance company wouldnt be long finding I had removed the brake rotor shields.

The rotor shields likely also reduce water splashing onto the rotors with can cause warped rotors as well as poor working brakes. With that said I would be willing to examine if possible to BEND or re shape them so they are a bit further away from the rotors so you reduce the rocks in your rotors as you describe.
