Red mark

Is there any specific reason the 35 and 55mph marks are red on the s550 and the s63 speedometers .. at least 2014 and 2017 respectively

is it a relic of the 70’s and 80’s fuel crisis?

Likely equates to the speed matching the engine redline RPM in 1st and 2nd gears. A relic from the days of automatic trannys without electronic controls that prevented shifts that could overspeed the engine.

my brain is always in the technical realm...
strange that its exactly 35 and exactly 55 which translates to 56.327 kph and 88.514 kph
AND for both the 4.7liter and 5.5 liter

it just seems strange that the numbers would fall perfectly into english units 35 and 55 as they are surely 100% metric engineering

then again, maybe MB has rounded down to these common numbers (rounding up = bad)

didnt mean to duplicate a previous discussion.. sorry team

Common European speed limits for residential, town/county and then highways (30, 50, 130 km/h). Granted not all European countries follow this strictly, there's also rural motorways (single lane) between towns that'll have up to 100 km/h and highways having 140 km/h.
