130 MPH Top Speed

Anyone know if this will also fall victim to that annoying (for me) 130MPH speed limiter? These days every car maker seems to exceed that. Anyone?

probably. Although its hard to regularly exceed 130mph, if you wish to do so, there are many aftermarket tuners that will create a solution.

A lot of MB dealers will do Renntech ECU modification,530hp and speed raised to 186mph in S550.
Just make sure you have proper tires......

Annoying? Are you planning much travel on the Autobahn?

No kidding. Unless the OP is going to excessively speed where real men speed (on the track) then he has no business driving that fast.

Audi does the same with their vehicles in the US. Let's face it, that is pretty fast. And to be in a vehicle that can easily exceed that speed just emphasizes the fact that at 130 mph, these cars are just loafing along. Personally, I have never come close to 130 mph on any US road. This is a non-issue to me.

My question was why MB would limit their American bound cars at that speed when the car is clearly capable of more. And these days there are the cheaply made American cars that exceed that mark straight from factory. At my age I don't have a desire to drive that fast daily.

Some of us work in jobs that demand you keep up and catch everyone who drives like that. Not to drive reckless and be a danger to everyone else but to be able to keep up with someone who does that and trust me, I see them everywhere here these days.

As my user name suggest, my work vehicle can exceed 130. I recently had to chase someone on our highways and at some point he was well past 130. I just need to know that if I have to go past 130 I can without mod to the car.

The limit is there because of the standard tires and going over 130 in the U.S. is a rare thing and kinda silly really. Like they said get an AMG if you need to go faster.

I was thinking maybe all we had to do is either rewire our fuel pumps or install adjustable fuel regulator

If you are really determined to go faster than 130, just about every ECU tune available will eliminate the top speed governor. This is easily done. Just make certain you upgrade your tires before exceeding the factory set 130 mph.

unfortunatley I have a HFM engine system. No updates or program tune ability.I will pursue though on mine a adjustable regulator. I don't know how the newer s class is controlled. But it would seem to me Mercedes because of competion would install w rated tires

I have the AMG version, I think it’s governed at 127? I ordered the speed delimiter. My Porsche 991.2 GT3 doesn’t have a governor, top speed 200. I have IPE headers and titanium exhaust which adds 20 horsepower and 20 ftlbs or torque.

If you really want to drive that fast, get a {Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Bugatti}, keep Y-rated tires on it (over 183 MPH), and use brake pads that do not overheat in a single stop from max velocity to zero MPH. My Ferrari comes with a note that says if "sustained speeds above 130 MPH are anticipated, tire pressures should be set to 40 PSI cold".

Really !

2019 S63 4Matic+, 2018 E400 Cabrio, wardens car.
Drove through eastern WA today on the way back to Seattle. Was out in the middle of nowhere with good visibility for several miles and a dry 2 lane highway. Decided to open it up, at 120 I stopped accelerating because it just did not feel super safe and I chickened out. Plus if I woulda crashed they probably would not have found me for a while. I guess if you were over in Montana with a liberal speed limit and not much enforcement it might be nice to go 130+ but that is about as far as I would probably trust any car.

All Cars Lost To Hurricane Isaac (W124 E420 revived - added 88 Allante 14 S550, 17 S63
If I were to make up a story I would say that I've hit the rev limiter in all 3: AMGs have owned at least once and in my W220 It happened twice That's if I was just making up something.... In my made up scenario it was unreal how quiet and smooth the cars would have been in that situation. In my made up situation the W222 AMG hit the rev limiter so quickly that it was literally breathtaking..and for such a big Sedan.....wink wink

MB’s of all kinds.
Renntech ECU upgrade with all the fixings and proper tires and 190mph should be close to attainable I would guess.

I went about 140mph on a race track before. To me that is fast! To many it is not. People talk about this car that car how fast it goes bla bla. 99% of people will never see triple digit speeds and will back off as soon as they do. I just don’t think people have any idea how fast and quick pretty much all cars can go now a days.

These cars at least the S550 and S560 which I've owned both can easily handle 130 and feel right at home. Like was said myself personally I don't really care about having a tune as I really don't want to go faster than 130 mph, things can happen really quick at those kinda speeds, you might be out in the middle of nowhere in farm country and then a tractor pulls out into the road in between corn fields or something like that, not a good scenario. C280 Sport, I see your from around Sarasota, I'm in Venice, what do you think of Sarasota Mercedes? They have corrected some problems I've had in the past, it seemed like they use to be really good, then they got bought out and things changed somewhat. It's pretty much the only dealer around Venice, it's either that or drive an hour and a half to Ft. Myers or an hour and half to Tampa or St Pete. It really seems like this area being as many people as there are could really use another dealer, like maybe in Venice or something. Very fast growing area. Sarasota just seemed overwhelmed with customers.

Funny that people in America are complaining about a 130 mph speed limiter on a nearly 5000 lb soft luxury car not in the least made for track use. Get caught driving at that speed and you're going to jail.

Years ago, I hit 122 mph in an early Mazda RX-7. I was on the Natchez Trace Parkway in MS where it goes through national park land and there is nothing out there. Unfortunately, a cop was coming the other way, turned around and pulled me over.

I tried to explain that I had just gotten the car and only wanted to open it up to see how fast it would go. He was not happy with me at all and threatened to take me to jail (in Woodville, MS !), but finally gave me a ticket and sent me on my way. The punchline? Maximum fine for any traffic offense in a national park at that time was $25!

I decided after that experience, that was as fast as I would ever drive on a public highway, and despite having several much faster cars, I have not and will not ever drive that fast again.

Agree with you Tom, it was more nerve wracking that anything else to go that fast.
