2017 S550 autopilot much better than 2014-1016?

I have 2015 tesla Model S which has the first generation of autopilot, it work ok at the time I brought the car(Nov 2015), and get improved with each OTA update in following years, today it work so well in freeway and local drive I use it all the time

yesterday I test drive 2014 S550, the lane keeping feature is not really usable, so bad.

from my reading from the forum, 2018+ S class is vastly improved, I guess it equal my 2015 tesla.

I did search on youtube, one guy post a video on his 2017 S550, it seems to me it is much better than 2014-2016 S550. below is the link:

please share your experience, is 2017 S550 lane keeping much improved? can it compare to 2018 model? can it handle lane change?

thanks

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
Not my experience, maybe the later 2017's like maybe that one in the video were better but with my 2017 I had to touch the steering wheel around every 15 seconds and it was not very good on corners and came out of the lane a lot. The 2018 I got in place of the 2017 is much better, my main complaint is the lanes are wide on the highways here in Florida and it tends to wander in between lane make it look like a intoxicated driver is driving the car.

Until they stop making drivers touch the wheel every few seconds it is a sale gimmick. It is actually dangerous as drivers can forget or confuse as to when it is on or off.

It either works to the point where there is no driver liability or it doesnt work there is no in between for me. When somone is using it they are sitting their playing a game watching the wheel with their hands ready to grab it. If you have confidence in the system grab a sandwich, lean back and pay no attention to the wheel or the road. Tesla has used this as a sales gimmick since inception charging people and never delivering. Where is the Tesla army that was ready to be released? Remember the 3 was going to work for you while it was parked at home by being an Uber or??? If they believed in it they would accept liability and not require human input its autonomous driving.

Look at Tesla's answers to the pictures of people supposedly asleep at the wheel. They say its a fake when if they believe din the system would be using it in their ads.

2015 MB S550 & 2020 MB GLS 450
With Distronic engaged, my 15 S550 functions as in the 2017 video. What mine will not do is a lane change as the newer models will do. As to touching the steering wheel, I always keep my hands lightly on the wheel when Distronic is engaged.
Here is short video of the 2015 Distronic in traffic:

2020 S560 Sedan, 2019 SL450, 2019 E450 Luxury Trim Wagon, '24 BMW I7 on order...
I had a 2015 S550, a 2018 S560 and now a 2020 S560. The Distronic has gotten progressively better with each car. Just made a few trips through the greater L.A. area on the 405, with fairly heavy, weekend traffic. The Distronic performed near flawlessly, tremendously reducing driver stress and fatigue. The “stop & go” feature works SO much better than it did in the previous two cars. I would not own any daily driver vehicle without this type of system. That said, Distronic Plus is part of the Driver’s ASSISTANCE Pkg. The systems contained in this package ASSIST the driver and anyone thinking that these systems will actually allow the driver to stop paying attention is in for a rude awakening.

Yes.. even Tesla has come clean... their promise of autonomous driving in the latest update is now officially recognized as a level 2... meaning you have 100% attention and be prepared to take control 100% of the time... so effectively the best we have is paying the exact same attention and alertness level as regular driving but, but with your hands off the wheel at times....
about the same as the latest s-class..... MB chooses to force attention by the wheel touch..
