Update: Took it to our trustworthy Mercedes Mechanic & was told it is most likely the ABC Pump... (I asked why it changes with RPM & was told both the Power Steering & ABC system are powered by the Engine.) As someone with previous experience with faulty ABC pumps, this is far from good. It still works fine but It will go out soon... Should I bite the bullet and replace it now or replace it further down the road? I think the obvious answer is go ahead and replace it but I would like some input from others. Has anyone replaced their ABC pump before? Not sure if I should let the Mechanic take care of it if I could do the work myself.

What I can't quite figure out is if the ABC pump is belt driven, why is the sound coming from the rear left? Could it possibly be a single strut? When I look at both rear struts there isn't a single drop of fluid on them which makes me think otherwise...

To refresh when my ABC pump needed replaced I was convinced that the transmission was making the noise. Even a mechanic at a independent shop felt it was the transmission. Apparently the cars acoustics allow sounds appear in placed they are not.
I can say one thing that the mechanic at the Mercedes dealer told me when I picked up my car. He suggested I should have removed the belt briefly and ran the engine and checked if the noise was gone.

When you run up higher RPMs the pump gets more power and the output changes, thats why the whining sound goes up and down with RPMs.

When the ABC pump failed in my S600 back in 2017, the pump was $2225 (after core charge), the labor was $900 (agreed rate with warranty plan), and Hydraulic oil was $65. All in with tax was around $3400.
I'd be making darn sure that this is the actual cause of the noise before spending any money on it as most dealers don't have a problem spending other people's money trying to chase down noises. If it's under a MB warranty, then by all means let them try this.
My S600 had 47k on the odo when this happened. What is your current mileage?

I took it in for the 40,000 mile service as it just hit 40,000 miles... Quite sad it failed so early... I found a New oem ABC pump for the W222 on the Mercedes official parts website for only $1310... I'm currently researching what all I would need to replace & where I should get the parts; Will most likely replace it myself as it doesn't seem too difficult.

I have WIS and I looked at the process of replacing the pump and it required the Star scan tool as part of the replacement process. If my memory serves me correctly the scan tool is used to cycle the system repeatedly to clear air our of the lines.
