Weird sound coming from rear left of w222.
Hi- hopefully the video link above works showing the odd sound coming from the rear left of the vehicle. This sound began a month or two ago and has been bothering me since. I have no codes or warning lights indicating the issue. It also appears to come and go at no specific intervals.. What threw me off was the fact that as RPM's increase, the sound intensifies too. Speed can decrease or increase & it would not make a difference. I don't understand the relationship between RPMs & sound intensity. It makes the noise while stationary. I originally believed it was the exhaust hitting the heat shielding but the sound is not audible from outside the car & the heat shielding does not contact the exhaust anywhere.
(My car is fitted with MBC though I hope that has nothing to do with this issue)
Any ideas are appreciated.

The link worked for me. I hear it and it would bother me too. Have someone else drive the car and you sit back there and see if that helps you locate it. Did you say it occurs even when not moving? Does the sound increase as the motor warms up? Does it occur even when the motor has just been cranked up? Have you ever just turned on the accessory only part of the ignition switch to see if it occurs with the motor not running? Trying to determine if it is a servo motor thing or not.

It does happen when not moving but it doesn't occur w/o the engine being on. It also seems to occur once the motor has been on for 2-3 minutes. The sound changes based on rpm & at no given rpm does it come-on/turn-off. The weird thing is is that the sound is most definitely coming from the rear left corner.. Sat back there and it was the loudest.

That's what I originally thought but turning left or right doesn't influence the sound. It's also present while not moving... So odd, isn't it?

Didnt see the part about it happening when not moving. I wonder if it could be a bad ground in one of the speakers, sometimes that will create a whine that goes up and down with RPM. Does it happen with the audio turned off?

If I recall there is a support bearing on the driveshaft. That could be what is the problem as well.

Sorry thought he said it was happening when moving only.
So what else is there. How about pulling fuse for fuel pump (briefly) and see if noise goes away............

It's coming from your speakers. Its the noise cancelling sound that you are hearing. Turn on the radio and you won't notice it as its doing what its should be, cancelling outside noises.

Stabbing in the dark here, but a prior car ('04 LX470) had something similar and it was an exhaust issue; the exhaust pipe was resonating at certain engine RPMs. Cheap fix; I think a new mount was installed.

It does still occur with the audio muted. It also still happens with the entire infotainment shut off. That being said I'll be experimenting with the rear speakers to see if they are connected to this mysterious sound. Thanks for the advice.

This is "indeed a stretch" but TPM CU is only module located in this general area. Anyway see attachments for function details that may or may not be relevant.

In the video it looks like debris is blowing around coincident with the noise. Is it some kind of blower( AC / Seat cooling)? Also it looks like your back seat is a different color than the front. Is that just because it is in the shade?

The debris blowing around are dust particles only visible in direct sunlight... The seat does look odd in the video, but yes they're the same color. As for blower.. That was a good idea that I have tested. With the AC / Cooled Seats off this noise still disrupts the cabin.
