2019 S50 MPG about 14 to 15 mpg
Hello all,
Just wondering how much MPG does everyone get on latest S560. I have been averaging about 14.5 to 15 MPG on mixed driving condition in my last 5k miles and as my Dad typically drives to work; he is always easy on throttle. Car only has about 5k Miles; because of Covid; have been working from work and not much driving either.
Thanks in advance.

The car has undergone some work related to engine; where Dealer never disclosed some fire had burned some cable before selling as new lease model and it was later fixed at their expense. It was only found when we opened the hood and found fire extinguisher dust powder all over engine bay and had to investigate further.
So just thought to check if there could be something wrong with my Engine efficiency in general or people do get such mileage on S560 of about 14 to 15 mpg.
Thanks in advance.

Winter gas blends in colder areas is less fuel efficient
In cold climates short trips can be hugely inefficient because a greater portion of the trip is during engine warm up. Even worse for bigger blocks
cold air is more dense and creates drag which works against aerodynamics
Heating electrics draw more power which uses more gas
Combustion of cold dense air is less fuel efficient
Reduced cold tire air pressure increases rolling resistance
Finally... your mileage sounds about right for short trips with stop and go for cold months.... it will likely increase in coming months.. and my two S's get about the mileage you observed in stop and go with moderate highway.. maybe 16-17.... the mileage really jumps in heavy highway driving
NOTE: As an ex-wisconsinite... we know a car warms faster if driven versus idling.. which also helps mileage..

Ya really depends on the type of driving and climate and driving style. When I go easy on my car here in Florida along I75 I can get 28 MPG at 70 MPH. and combination around town and highway is generally around 21 mpg.

Spoiler
Was an time when I was on old pirelli RF winter tires and I run them in the temperature like 10C on the highway at 75 mph getting 31,4 uk or 26,13 us mpg
So 18 us mpg ... I see only when I do very sort trip when the engine is not getting up to running temperature. Then if I would see steady 18us mpg on the highway then definitely I'd investigate that.

On a 2018 S560, I get high 20s on the highway; touching low 30s if I take it easy. In around town driving where I'm dipping into boost more than I should, I get 12/13 or so. I am averaging around 18/19 MPG given reduced highway travel lately.

My experience as well. Around town, even driving very conservatively, the car is a gas guzzler. On the highway, fuel economy for the big, very powerful sedan is what I would call outstanding.

this is mostly stop and go with light highway (in Houston light highway is often stop and go)
I hope the OP reads your post as his mileage may be a bit low depending on conditions.

I did an actual calc and i do get about 18/19 on the 550, and 17/18 on the 63.... I typically just look at the miles per tank... but I went back and looked thru my receipts... I was estimating less then I am actually getting

BTW, I average 20 MPG n my S-600, I have gotten as high as 30 MPH {Fron Flagstaff to Kingman--admittedly down hill, but plenty of miles (about 300))}
More typically, I get 22-23 MPH on interstates at 75-ish, and 16 MPG in town.

I think there is a difference in city, vs City vs CITY
It would be interesting to see how your driving compares to what the EPA's definition of city driving is.

Gas mileage in City driving is all about predicting {the light will turn red,...} and to start slowing down before you get there so you don't have to stop.

If that's your car and if it's really an S600, then you need to get your trip computer fixed. Or perhaps you were cruising in neutral down a long mountain road?
Regardless, 30 mpg is absolutely impossible at any speed in an S600. Hell....it's almost impossible at any speed in an S550. Your S600 is only rated at 20 mph on the hwy under ideal conditions and most people know that the EPA numbers are hard to achieve.

B) I did mention that I started in Flagstaff and took the picture a bit past Kingman which is decidedly downhill.
C) by the time I reached Bakersfield the mileage was down to 24 MPG.

E) Heck, I can get 22 MPG out of my Ferrari rated at 17 MPG--but I can also get it down to 6 MPG on the race tracks.
F) It is not what they are rated for, it is how you drive them. I know how, perhaps you do not.

Unfortunately I don't live in an area where I can cruise down hill for 170 miles in high heat. IL is pretty darn flat. Have you ever checked your mileage for the reverse trip at 70 mph? Maybe 16 mpg going the reverse direction?
BTW, you need a dust rag for your GLS.

All in the same direction. Aft on the way from Bakersfield to Flagstaff about a week later, on the return trip, I got about 23 MPG. so the hils do make a difference, but "not ""that"" much".

So, I have established that one CAN get that kind of mileage.
The questions you guys should be asking is how ??

2 of those MPG are by not consuming much water and thus not needing to stop except for lunch--two 4-hour stints with no breaks.
1 of those MPG are by not using distronic in traffic (even on interstates) as it slows down too much and unnecessarily harming MPG
3 of those MPG are taking the transmission out of gear on downhill slopes of sufficient angulation and coasting
2 of those MPG are from using 39 PSI in the tires
AND
1 of those MPG are from accelerating modestly to speed
{take the numbers above as representative of the ratios between them but not necessarily as definitively accurate.}

My 16 Maybach with the v12 gets about 22-23 on the freeway. Interestingly my 18 AMG GTC gets virtually the same mpg on the freeway and that car weights about 2000 pounds less than the Maybach.

My 2015 S65 gets 21mpg on the open interstate with cruise set at 82mph. It drops to about 19mpg on local expressways with heavier traffic. The MPG does not improve at lower speed settings. Two summers ago I did a 6,000 mile trip from home to Midland Michigan, then Pittsburgh, then back home. Average mpg for the entire trip was 20.4mpg, I think the average speed was around 50mph due to the 400 miles of local city street driving. The worst interstate mpg was 17.8mpg across Indiana and Illinois in the rain at a speed average of 60mph. The best was 24.2 from Flagstaff to the east side of Albuquerque, about 390 miles at an average speed of 81mph. Starting elevation was 7,000ft, the refilling gas station was at about 6,000ft so almost level over 390 miles. The next leg from east of Albuquerque to Amarillo was seriously downhill but the mileage dropped to about 22mpg. The worst mileage I have ever seen on the S65 in city driving is slightly above 12mpg. Mainly because at light throttle it upshifts at 1,300rpm, at moderate throttle it upshifts by 1,900rpm. By 2,200 rpm it already makes the full 738ft-lbs of torque so it is surprisingly economic in slower stop and go traffic. I consider 12mpg economic from a V12 BiTurbo compared to my old musclecars.
I have no doubt an S560 could see 30mpg on the interstate.
