I only know the steps for 2014-2017 cars... Not sure if 2018+ vehicles have a different process.
Here are the steps if I remember correctly:
1. Press the "Vehicle Settings" button in the center console.
2. Once that tab is open, pull the infotainment control-*** backwards once. ("System Settings" should be highlighted)
3. Once highlighted, push the *** to the left (don't twist); hold it in that position for a few seconds.
4. The Engineering Screen should appear.

Thanks Sean,

This procedure doesn't apply in 2018 unfortunately.

Engineering mode

How do one get into engineering mode on a 2013 S550 US built and what is the Command Version? 3.0 or 3.5?

Try to do as he says. It is 2017 E class, but I think it's the new version of MBUX and should work for 2018 and up S class. Try it.

P.S. I just tried it on my car. Instead of Setting press and hold Vehicle for about 10 sec. and you'll be in Dealer's mode. Scroll down and press End to get out.
Hope it helps.
