Check Engine Light

Re a '16 S coupe, I just noticed a steady engine pic light on the dash and have no idea how long it's been there. Is this the check engine light? I can't find any thing in the manual re the pic.

Thanks guys. Now I can use my scan tool that I've had for several years but never used. Only 25k miles on the car; hopefully nothing serious.

Got a code P0023, exhaust camshaft position actuator. One of the corrective steps is to clean the sensor. Anyone know where it is? Can't locate it in WIS. A rather common problem I understand.

Thanx. Item 60 is the positioner it appears. Is 70 the actuator? That's what I'm looking for.

Do both intake and exhaust cams have variable timing?

I erased the code and the light hasn't come back so I guess it's fixed. Wonder what the dealer would have gotten for this job?

@Jud Chapin please keep the thread updated if you find oil in the connectors.

All four cams have variable timing.

4 x cam position sensors
4 x cam solenoids

Each of the 8 devices can leak oil into the connector and from there it migrates wherever it can, one place is the ECU.

My view is that pulling these connectors off and inspecting for oil should be regular preventive maintenance. The sensors and solenoids are MB parts bin items used across 4, 6 and 8 cylinder engines.

I wii do that. But I think the problem is solved as the cel has not reappeared since erasing the code. Thanks for the tip on the connector mtce.

CEL can be intermittent if oil has started to migrate and is a small amount, so it is cheap insurance to pull the connectors and check for oil. Acknowledged that there is no confirmation in your post that says oil is in the harness.

Re: the question about cleaning. CRC contact cleaner will do the job on the connectors, but if oil is found, the source needs to be corrected. And if sufficient oil migrated into the harness, a new engine harness is the only sure solution.

As an update, the CEL has not reappeared after several hundred miles so I guess I'm ok. Who knows what triggered it initially. However, I did an oil & filter change just before the light emerged and the filter is very close to these sensors. Perhaps I brushed one causing the problem. Also close by is the engine air intake duct work that has to be removed and which takes a little jostling to do so. Just a heads up to those changing their own oil to watch these connectors.
