Steering Wheel heater
Should it take 7 minutes for the wood part of the steering wheel to feel warm? The temp outside was -7C. My old 2009 Jaguar VDP wooden wheel was heated in 2 minutes.

I just got my 2020 S450 1 week ago and the first thing I noticed that the steering wheel heater takes forever. Totally opposite to BMW 7 series that I traded in for this car. In BMW it would take about 30sec.

I don't understand why wood steering wheel should heat up slowly. My Range Rover has the wood wheel and it's warm up in about 1 min.

Yes, it should heat up in 1 or 2 mins. But hey, at least it eventually works, unlike the useless active ventilated seats.

To pain relief on this topic ,my father's Cadillac Fleewood seat heaters take about many years to get warm and don't even thin about a heated steering wheel lol .I think Mercedes-Benz don't care about it as much as other car makers do , when you have it in an S Class you expect it to be perfect . You're right but I wear gloves instead

Mercedes has always been a bit difficult when it comes to heated steering wheels.
Our AMG’s didn’t even have the option to get heated steering wheels.
While other brands may have one or the other improved feature, they lack in other areas.
I do like that BMW’s remote start also preconditions the seats and steering wheel, some I miss on our GLE in sub zero MN winters.
But then they have the most boring one-choice only steering wheel design.
Mercedes usually offers 3+ options…

With that said, the heater takes a long time and never gets that warm. In contrast the wheel on my Chrysler Pacifica gets so hot you have to turn it off...

A heated wheel is one of the few things missing from my W222 that I wanted to retrofit. But upon reading all the poor reviews for it and minimal area that is actually heated, I don't think I'm missing out on too much after all...

Most of the poor reviews are for the old style wheel. The 2018+ wheel is fully heated, heats up reasonably well, and quick, and gets nice and warm. It just takes the wood a bit longer than the leather to heat up.

The wood section takes several minutes and stays lukewarm but the leather section takes 2 mins or so and gets toasty. 2018 s450. Just tested it today as it’s freezing outside.
