S550
I have both the Pirelli P-Zeros and Continental DWS 06+ currently on 2 of my vehicles- here's what I can say...
  • The P-Zeros, currently a 19' 245/40 245/40 setup on the S90, are decent but kind-of suck in the rain. While quiet, they don't inspire any confidence in the rain.
  • The Contis, currently a 20' 255/40 275/40 setup on the S550, have blown my expectations away. I came from PS4S's before these. The turn in and feedback from these tires are parallel to the PS4Ss. Furthermore, they're just as quiet if not quieter.
  • The Pirelli PS4S', my prior tires on the S550 with the same setup as now, were very good as well. They were quiet and inspired confidence. That being said, they did not last long at all; less than 20,000 miles out of them despite being filled to their proper pressures.
*None of the tires listed have been runflats.

So yeah you know the areas I drive! Been to Jimmy's many times. Another unusual place you should try is Jerry's Seafood in Bowie.

Another thing I realized, the front size are available in the PZero ELECT which have the sound absorbing foam inside. Rears aren't available with that but I may get the fronts with that...
Any updates on your Tire choice? Suffered thru Trek from Georgia to Laurel Maryland in Son's 2021 Kia Soul LX yesterday. Rain-X came in handy. First leg of trip before I-77 cutoff was shadowed by an immaculate S550...why did I leave my Mercedes in El Segundo? LOL

60-series tires came in handy when was redirected to Lee Hwy from accident on 66. Might visit that Mormon Temple on Beltway before it is closed to civilians. Taking AMTRAK from BWI to Boston to watch Daughter walk at MIT on Friday. 2021 was virtual.

Haven't seen many S-Classes around MIT, Harvard this weekend with graduations and traffic restrictions by Campus and local PD. Cambridge has been built up since I was last in the City last in 1985. Old Team Member from MIT/LL picked me and dear wife up and the Bill for Dinner last night while Daughter was at her Senior Ball and son was roaming the streets of Boston trying to get into an Anime Event. Lots of Honda CRV and Subaru CUVs with a few Audi Q5s, Volvos, and Teslas thrown into the Mix. Was more impressed with the '70 and '80 era Pristine Mack Dump Trucks on Duty with construction projects around the area. Was glad that we took Amtrak to Boston from BWI...really no place to park as you cross the Charles River. Roads in Cambridge were pretty smooth on my way to a $42 Boston's Finest Lobster Roll. Great place to terrorize the local streets, joggers, and tree huggers with an Anti Fossil Fuel Mandate celebrated at 2020/2021/2022 Commencement Ceremonies. My 20" AMG Tires and Wheels could easily survive Cambridge just not sure about the rest of the Car...students might take it apart and reassemble it on Top of the Dome in Protest...lol

Jerry's Crab Bomb was a no filler tasty experience... will try Pappas and Coco's next visit to Maryland with classmate who still is an Attorney for John Hopkins University.

Let us know when you get your new Pirellis OP!

Weekend before last, I was in NYC and had flat tire.

I have wheel and tire hazard warranty so was able to replace the tire for free but it took them 3 working days to get and fix the tire.

They could not get additional tires that I wanted so had to go to another dealer in Springfield Mass.

I have had Bridgestone Touranza EL400-2 RFT and I love them (also do not have experience with Michelin, Conti or Pirelli RFTs.).

My tires are 245/50 18"

Pappas Seafood best crab cake IMO.

@SW20S Back in Desert Southwest with triple digit Temps last 4-days. Daughter in Maryland doesn't even have AC...lol. Service A completed on AMG Wagon yesterday. Your All season Pirelli tires way cheaper than my 20" staggered DWS06+ setup that I financed thru Discount Tire 6-months same as Cash!

OT:
While waiting for Service A to be completed walked next door to Dealership's VW Store to checkout ID.4 and vintage 50's era Beetle and 60's era Bus on showroom floor. Struck up conversation with young SA who is half German/half American. He said a few weeks back an Older Mercedes Benz Quality Professional from the Motherland was randomly checking out both the standard and upgraded leather on Benz cars on their lot. It seems the quality of leather and workmanship of US spec cars does not measure up to what the home market Germans receive on their new cars. He showed my buddy the differences in quality with pictures since was surprised that SA was fluent in German. Heads are going to Roll for giving the USA substandard Leather.

After my service was completed drove AMG Wagon next door for show and tell with VW staff. Not many have seen an AMG wagon in the flesh in El Paso and as I pulled up with my Hazard Lights Activated they all ran outside to hear Mozart not Kraftwerk. Local buyers and the Cartel gravitate towards the G63 SUV. SA just purchased GLE350 4Matic for his huge German Shepherd with same interior color palette as my Wagon. He also has a Z06 Corvette on order from buddy in DFW area...just $10K over MSRP for NA 670hp Flat Plane V8. I need friends like that@stealth.pilot !

Some good networking you are doing there. And I’m glad you are distinguishing yourself from the Cartel!

If the SA is high on the list then that’s pretty awesome! I know a number of dealers who will sell a Z06 at MSRP. The problem is all have them a 4-5 year plus wait list. By then there might be a C9! Would be good to have a friend who can help you also jump the queue! I’ve been on the Stingray list since April and in that time have gone from 1513 to 1166. Probably have another year to wait!

I’m going to put in an order for the Grand Sport once the books open. Maybe that will arrive sooner if I get in on day 1.

My experience with Michelin is such that I won't buy tires that are rated lower in areas that are important to me just because they are Michelins. Overrated, IMO.

Me too. Whenever I receive a car with Pirellis I swap them out for Michelin's after about 5000 miles (first annual service).

I used to use Pirellis back in the old days on my race cars. But for the past few cars I have only used Michelins with good results. But everyone is different with different needs and preferences. BTW Formula 1, the top level of racing in the world, has only used Pirelli as their contracted supplier for years. Good luck!

I've had PS4's for a while and love them, looking forward to getting the new PS5's in the next month or so.

The best tires both in terms of smoothness and quietness of any car I've EVER owned are the 21" Pirelli P Zeros (unstaggered) on my 2022 Audi S8. I am shocked and amazed as to how nice they are. It's strange how different cars and different people get different results amongst the variety.

So they came in today, and I went to go look at them (which I always do with staggered tires since I got Michelins last time with sidewalls that looked totally different and had to return them) TireRack sent the wrong size for the front! Sent me the fronts in 20s. Glad I went by! Appointment to install them is Wednesday hopefully the right ones will be in by then...

As for tire brands, having had a variety of tire brands over the last 10-15 years has shown me, brand loyalty doesnt make sense. Different brands have good tires and bad tires. I've had Michelins I hated, and Michelins I liked. My experience with Pirelli has been very good, I ran 4 sets of Cinturato P7 AS Plus on my LS460s...

Tires are mounted!

So far so good. The shop had them aired to 45! I lowered them to 38 when I got home, they actually ride great at that pressure. i will lower them to 35 in the morning once they are cold and see if I need to run lower pressures like I did with the Michelins.

Balance is perfect, true and round and so far I am quite impressed. I measured the ambient noise before replacement and then afterwards, I was 59 dB at 75 MPH before and now same stretch same speed I'm 57-58...so thats a real improvement. Handling is much tighter and the car feels lighter on its feet with no perceptible drop in ride or noise comfort, so far so good!

I'm up for a change and one thing that puts me off when looking at Pirelli P Zeros (despite all the good words here) is that they come with little or none rim protector... My PS3s (yeah, old set from 2018) are ridiculous in that department:

front (255/40/20)

back (285/35/20)

Is there any way to get P-Zeros with similar rim protector? (is it an additional parameter of a tire when getting it? - here where I live the only way to check tires before actually buying it is to go to a car lot and look for yourself or be lucky enough to see the exact type/model at the shop, which is not gonna happen given these are not that popular and nobody keeps them on display).

Any advice here?
