2016 S550 50K miles - interior louder than 2015 S550 100K miles!
Purchased a Non-CPO 2016 S550 4Matic with 50K miles 2 weeks ago. Took it for a test drive - seemed perfect. I borrowed my brother's 2015 S550 4Matic with 100K miles that has been repaired 4 times (he's had bad luck with accidents), and I noticed immediately how his cabin was whisper quiet. You could still hear the rain, passing cars, etc. But muffled.
I stepped back in my car and did the exact same drive. All those noises were coming in much clearer/louder in my car, I'd say about 20-30%. Really prominent around the windows. It's as if the window is slightly cracked open. Also, above 65 MPH the wind noise is pretty prominent.
I brought it to a Certified Mercedes Collision Center. He said the car looks like it's never been hit, all original paint. Clean Carfax. He believe it's the "soft close" that is malfunctioning and not creating a tight enough seal between the window and door. When I asked if he could fix it, he said he didn't want to touch it outside of an Insurance job (an accident.) Apparently, he can't bill the insurance for the labor of diagnosing and told me just to fully clarify the problem would cost me over $1K.
My next step is to the dealer. I'm just wondering has anyone had this issue before? I thought maybe my brother had the "Acoustic" comfort package but I don't think W222's have that. I also read that the windows are already double paned.
Thank you!
Any help is appreciated.
