High Beam Headlights

I live in a central city area and drive on well-lighted and traveled streets most of the time. Last night I was out on a unlit rural highway and noticed that switching on the high beams didn't seem to do anything. If I pulled the lever toward me to flash the lights, then the amount of light dramatically increased. I have the headlight selector knob set to 'Auto'.

Is there any setting that has to do with enabling the high beams? I was really overdriving my lights going 75 - 80 in the dark!

If you have Adaptive Highbeams, make sure that the stalk is pushed forward, Auto on the light switch is not enough.

Yes, pushed the stalk forward and saw the indicator lamp appear on the display, but didn't get any more light! Every other car I've owned has a big increase in light when you switch on the high beams ... I wondered if there's any automated thing that might control or restrict when the high beams come on?

Adaptive high beam assist is controlled by multifunction camera @ OCP may need to have software checked/updated.

You have to be going a certain speed, I think about 25mph, and you mentioned that you were doing more than that.
Just looking for the obvious things first

Is there a particular datacard code for Adaptive High Beam Assist? Or maybe it's part of a package? If I have this feature that will help with troubleshooting ...

Code 608 auto high beam control, or 628 adaptive high beam assist plus

In my W222 and the previous CLS, there is an A in the middle of the blue headlight icon in the display, but on other Mercedes that I have/had there is no A.

On a call, otherwise I would go and snag a picture...

Looking at the Monroney Label for my 2019, it's just under Exterior, not an additional package:

Thanks, you guys are awesome!

I do have code 608, "Automatic High Beam Switch (IHC)", so perhaps that feature overrode or conflicted with my attempt to turn on high beams by pushing the lever.

Will look for another dark place to try it again, then head for my Indy if still doesn't do what I think it should.

MY 18 S450V RWD Diamond White
My build sheet says code 608 Adaptive Highbeam Assist. Works as it should.

If i am not mistaking, you can just turn the rotary headlight switch to "ON" (just past straight up switch position)... not AUTO ( straight up switch position) and then push the stalk forward and you will then be able to blind oncoming traffic as you wish

when using the auto high beam assist or whatever they call it - it does take some time for the system to open the light curtain and illuminate to a greater degree the road ahead. too slow for me so i always turn the lights to manual (as described upthread) and control the high beams manually with the turn signal stalk like cars of yore. you don't get the light curtain action but you get immediate high beams and after-all more light is what you're after - not some snazzy light curtain show that is far too slow to react for the conditions.
