Using Voice Commands

Reading a story that says 40% of drivers use in-car voice commands at least once a week. Do you use them at least once a week in your car?

And I think they mean using the car's voice system, not Siri on your phone through Carplay.

I just this week gave it a try. Pressed the button and said "preset 7". The Sirius channel changed to 7. Unfortunately I can't remember what preset numbers I used for which stations haha.

Not sure if once a week, so I don't drive most days, but yes I use it regularly for navigation and such.

You can also say Channel <name of channel> to change to a specific Sirius channel. No need for presets and having to remember the preset numbers. Presets are so 80s.

I use them for CarPlay, ad for presets, 80s on 8 is one mine! Also Classic Rewind, I actually listen to that more 😀

Yes, the name of the channel such as 'Hits 1', 'The Pulse', '80s on 8' etc. All the channels have a name. So just say "Channel 80s on 8" and it switches to that channel.

Early in my ownership, I used the voice commands somewhat often. I don't think I have used any in the last 4 years.

The only one i used reguarly is the for making phone calls, I use that every single time I make a call and it is amazingly accurate even with farily complex names. Never really tried it for chaning radio stations and used a few times for nagivation

I use voice commands to make phone calls and also to turn on the seat massaging. Using voice commands for navigation has been problematic...sometimes I get what I want, and sometimes I don't. I have tried a few other commands that I don't really need like the seat heater and they work fine. I also find trying to change sirius radio stations difficult but I think that's because the command format needs to be precise and I just haven't been able to remember enough about it. I have spent a lot of time trying to make the voice navigation work but I still have lots of problems with it. I love my 2019 s560 but i think the voice command system needs to be improved.

Make sure you update your voice command system. The map updates also include an update for the voice recognition, but at least in the past, the voice recognition system was only updated if you do the manual map update from the web portal. The OTA update only updated the map. They did redesign the portal recently and now it doesn't have a disclaimer anymore about the voice recognition, but still not sure it's being updated as part of the OTA update. I always do a full manual update and the voice recognition has improved over time.

Navigation is where I use voice commands the most. Navigating to a place by name or pulling up last destinations. It's pretty reliable for me in finding the place I'm looking for. Sometimes I have to narrow down to the online search results, which you can do once it comes back with the results. Just say "Show online destinations". Other times it hits it right away and starts navigation.

Basically I use voice control for anything that requires more than a couple of clicks, requires inputting text or scrolling through long lists.

I don't. I use the English UI because it suits me better and saying the name of the place to navigate to never works. I am relatively certain that it expects me to pronounce German addresses as if they were written in English, even for German names and it rarely works. God forbid if you visit other countries. Instead, I use Google Maps on my phone to select an address, share it with the Mercedes Me app and it arrives on the car's GPS within a few seconds. Works 95% of the time (unless when the Mercedes Me app decides to log me off every now and then).

I have managed to activate the driver's massage as well as the climate sync with almost 90% effectiveness. However, I've set the massage into my favourites which is faster to activate, leaving Sync as the only thing I would actually save time (and attention while driving) compared to doing it manually.

Dumb question ... do voice commands require the car to have an internet connection? Thinking about station names for all 300 Sirius stations and wondering if those are actually stored in the car or looked up on an internet server somewhere?

Not with COMAND, but MBUX relies on an Internet connection just like Siri and Google Assistant do. The station names are part of the channel guide that gets sent to the car via satellite.

That's funny. Whenever I'm in Europe I switch my phone to German, because as a native German speaker I can't listen to Google Maps butcher all the German street names.

Definitely. But at least it will understand me when I dictate to it and I rarely use Google for navigation (I'll be either using the car GPS or have the phone set to silent if I take the SBB).

I use voice commands to turn on massage for the passenger seat and my seat to avoid a multi step button pushing.
I also use "navigate to" voice commands when using the MB nav instead of Google maps.
I also use voice commands with Apple CarPlay to message or call.
Does anybody have a list of commands recognized by the system?
I can say "right seat massage on", or "passenger seat on" and they both work.
I haven't tried lots of stuff that might work, possibly "open sunroof" or "turn off display"
I wish there was a list of available functions.
