Mercedes Mbrace Me APP

I just bought my 2017 S500 last month and like the car. I'm currently going back and forth with the delaer I bought it from regarding some issues, but that's a post for another day.

I'm curious about the Mbrace and ME APP. I wish I had remote start, which comes with the app. Is anybody using the APP, and how good is it? I haven't seen any talk on this thread about it so I assume it's not something people use, but want to ask.

Carlos, I've been using that App for remote start and so on. But as of yesterday, the Cell Phone 3G networks that the Mercedes Me App runs on were shut down due to obsolescence. So no more remote start apparently as Mercedes isn't going to produce any fix or upgrade. There is another thread about that here <https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w212/836025-impact-3g-2.html>

I had the app for this year for my 2018. I only used it for remote start and honestly I never used it more than a dozen times. Nothing else on the app works. It's not worth the cost. I'm not renewing.

This is another example of the "love-hate" relationship customers have with MB, and the confusion that ensues. I spoke with Mbrace today and they told me that some 2017 cars t, that were built later in 2017, and the cars after that have 4G, not 3G. Luckily my car has 4G so I'm not affected by that bulletin, and Mbrace/ME will continue to work just fine. My brother just bought a brand new Checy truck with wifi, but unfortunately they use 3G so his service is basically nothing. But I appreciate you looking out for us because that affects all cars built in 2016 or before, and early build 2017 cars.

I had a couple Hyundai cars and used their Bluelink APP, a Genesis and an Equus. The cost was $99 per year, at least until 2020, when I cancelled my subscription. My primary reason was remote start; I like to get in a nice warm car on cold winter mornings so remote start would be worth it for me, especially if I could only buy it only for the colder months. But when I spoke with Mbrace today they had a minimum of 2 years for a new subscription. I guess I could cancel in May if I wanted to. Interesting how the manufacturers don't just offer the remote start as a stand alone feature, you have to buy some other less desirable package in order to get the feature that means the most.

Thanks for the feedback about what you use and how frequently you use it. Sometimes I have to drive for 2+ hours to visit my clients' businesses, and 90% of the time the car is left outside in the elements.

Just for context, mBrace is MB's old online platform for model years 2018 and earlier and is effectively end of live. Certain services like live traffic can no longer be renewed for example. Starting with model year 2019, MB launched a new online platform called Mercedes me connect. It has more modern features such as over-the-air updates for maps etc. and uses a completely new phone app as well. mBrace never quite worked well as it was MBs first attempt at connected cars. The Mercedes me connect platform on the other hand works quite well now (had some initial growing pains) and is what they are focusing on. mBrace isn't getting much attention anymore as time passes, especially since the number of cars that are still using mBrace has dropped significantly with the shutdown of the 3G networks.

Hi Mid City, I appreciate your engineering prowess. But I don't think spending $1K for remote start, and the associated features, is worth it to me. If your equipment was under $500 all-in I'd consider it. Thanks

You're right, and this is the confusing part about Mercedes' systems.

I guess based on the year and month of my car's build I'm on the newer 4G Me system, not Mbrace. But it sounds like nobody here values it that much. $300 for 2 years is not totally unreasonable, but I'm old school, I just want to buy something and own it instead of paying a monthly "subscription" fee. That's just a slick way to get more money out of the consumer over time.

No, you are still on mBrace, even though you have 4G LTE. Only 2019+ model years are on the new Mercedes me connect.

Again...confusing. The app is Mercedes Me, not Mbrace. The programs are under Mercedes Me, not Mbrace. The only thing worse than how they did it is trying to figure all this out. You can literally talk to 3 different people, from Mercedes, and get 3 different answers. That's been my experience thus far, in less than 30 days of ownership.

Yes, that's true. The old app is called Mercedes me. The new app is called Mercedes me connect in the USA. In Europe the new app is called Mercedes me 2020. Absolutely agree. It's confusing. Both apps still exist, so they have to have different names in the app stores to coexist.

mBrace is the name of the online platform. Not sure why it had its own name. The new online platform is also called Mercedes me connect, so same as the app, at least in the USA.

It looks like MB largely purged the mBrace name to reduce confusion I guess. So the old platform is now just called Mercedes me, and the new one Mercedes me connect:

What makes it even more confusing is the Mbrace app works fine with the apple watch for lock and unlock and remote start but the Iwatch will not work on my 2019 E450 which uses Me connect lol. A lot of people are pretty upset that the watch will not work with the connect.

Right, the Mercedes me connect app doesn't have an Apple Watch version. Phone only for now.
