Especially so if one takes out SUVs, which are arguably Mercedes' most US-oriented products.

ITs smart because they sell cheaper models into China with small motors, and they charge 2X the price.
Chinese are obsessed with status, and they should be, they make all the stuff the world buys, yet they cannot afford what they are making.
it's a prison state

Regardless of volume whch we are 3rd not last the US will always matter especially for MB who builds the top selling SUVs in the US. We have never received the wide variety of cars that MB, BMW and Audi produce in Europe. Being a car guy I was always facinated to see how many different engine and body styles under each of the MB classes they offer vs. what we get.

Yes, it's fascinating many taxis around the world are the same Mercedes models we in the US look on as luxury cars.

Many variants of these cars around the world, I think someone even posted that there's a four-cylinder S-class in some market!

4-cylinder S-Class is not news at all. It was back in the days of W221, more than 10 years ago.
There were the S250/S300 CDI Blue Efficiency. These turbo diesel engine could propel the car from 0-60 in 8.2 sec, which is not bad at all in those days. Remember the gasoline V8 W126 500SEL did it in 8.1 sec. These were sold all over Europe.

My favorite taxi was a Buick Regal that took me all over Munich!
The driver loved his Buick.
