Just wondering if we are really getting old an out of touch with the "reality" of these new cars or they're just simply screwing up.....I always remember the "Bangle BMW butt", and man, I was so wrong about it, however I've got a 2007 one... fantastic car !

Interesting to read everyone’s comments.

I began with a cream over black ‘71 300SEL, drove it 105,000 miles and sold it when it needed new air suspension.
Since then I’ve been a fairly low mileage driver as my wife of 42 years does our distance driving mostly in a number of RX350ds and Range Rovers.
Drove a mélange of Audis and 7 series BMWs, many used.
Bought a late production 2012 S class for about $100M, sold it to my son when I bought our current Emerald Green ‘18 S560, that now has about 25M miles on it. At age 90, I don’t see trading or selling it.
Current daily driver is my absolutely gorgeous 2022 Cardinal Red EQS450+. that my wife says is the best car we have ever owned. (She has only recently begun driving the S560.) She still uses her’19 RX daily.
I have bought about 35 cars since college from Chevies and Fords to several Bentleys, and I like my 450 best of all

And that’s my tale

The EQS drives great, I just hate how it looks. Nothing against how it drives.

Gotta get over that, EVs are coming like it or not. 10 years from now you wont be able to buy any high caliber car that isn't an EV.

Its a done deal, manufacturers have completely stopped developing internal combustion powerplants and platforms, they're not going to do an about-face on that.

Newbyloub you are 90 and still driving, God bless you! I'm only 54 and can't imagine what 90 would feel like. You must have some great genes!

I totally agree it's a done deal. Which is why I will be a used car buyer forever.
Can you all imagine a dystopian future where everyone drives a battery that is made of cobalt that was stripped from a poor village in Africa, mined by workers who are paid nothing and treated like nothing, by some large Chinese mining firm, making the 'engine' for this garbage?
and then all the people who buy them think they are doing something for the planet and helping....they all just believe electricity is like WiFi, free and everywhere?
Sounds like a great future, and time to wake up.
It would be easy to do an about-face, gas engines are more efficient than any other engine for automobile use.
and then banning gas stoves....I guess they don't like food properly cooked?

I don't think most people buy EVs because they think they are saving the environment, they buy them because they are fun and they don't want to buy gas. Thats why I like them.

Nobody is going to ban gas stoves, but you certainly can cook something properly on an electric stove. Hundreds of millions of people do every day.

Thank you. It’s been a great trip.

At 54, I sometimes wondered if I ‘d reach 68 and see the turn of the century. 😃

Are you a trade it up type, or till the wheels fall off type?
I own and have owned a bunch of cars, I can whole heartedly say the w222 s class is the best car I have, recently picked up a 2023 e class and still like driving my 2015 s550. It also somehow has mlre features than these newer cars

My 17 222 does all I need plus looks great as confirmed by the most seasoned valet boys who sample more hot cars than any of us ever will. It’s a trophy which the auto world aspires to. How can that happen as a future jellybean knockoff? From home on one tank, I can make Dallas, Austin, San Antonio or Del Rio. Will I be able to match that without an EV pit stop?

I'm just being grumpy. Since EV is here and spreading, the least they could do is put it in a box that looks way cool and not like every other egg on the road.

I need a whiskey.

Here's the question, how often do you get in your car and drive 600 miles in one shot? I never do, furthest I ever travel by car is ~400 miles, and thats once a year and thats a family trip I wouldn't take in my car anyways. There us a beautiful thing about getting in the car every morning and having it be fully charged and never having to stop for gas again.

They will.

I have a fully electric car (wife's car) that is so great for those shorter trips (Nissan Leaf SL Plau 225 mile range) and my S550e plug in hybrid. I think the EQS is odd looking but was probably a good idea for MB vesus what Genesis just did with a retro-fit G80 with electric by cutting the trunk down to size big time and raising the floor in rear so more like a compact rear. At some point the EV thing will get here we'll see 500 mile range cars, the S class in 2035 will probably be all electric too. But for now I agree the looks, handling and feel of these cars is pure class. I get at least 2-3 comments a week when I drive my regularly of "nice car" "is that an S-Class" "is that the new one" Nope this is the W222 the best one

W222 - our Emerald Green ’18 S560 stays in the garage or we’re sitting in it driving…all this means we don’t often get to see it in the bright sunshine necessary to fully appreciate its color.

When we’re parked outside on a sunny day, we inevitably get strong compliments,

The only comparable color I’ve seen was a brief view of the same approach in metallic red - just as beautiful as our green.

I’ve never seen another M B in either color.

You pinned the mistake down perfectly. Before EV, car makers chased MB. Now, MB has joined the ranks of look-a-likes. That’s a little harsh but you get my drift, I trust.

BTW I hope you’re right about the box.

I just don't agree. The W223 is clearly an S Class, the smoothing of two character lines, lines that the S Class never had before, doesn't make it a "look alike", its an evolution of the W222 design.

For decades, nothing else looked like a big S. Instantaneously it screamed S. Not anymore but that won’t make me leave the S world at all.

Appearance is not at all why I buy an S. But as MB goes slick like all the rest and loses it’s visible stature, like all the rest, I’ll still buy one.

Can we agree on a single malt?
