wow good catch. I would change everything out asap, how many miles on your car?

Again, this reinforces that the main culprit of the harness leak are the cam position sensors, NOT the cam phasers. The cam phasers usually leak onto the cam covers, but not necessarily into the harness.

One important question here - what is your mileage?

Because the part does not exist out of eBay. There is no known manufacturer for it outside of ZZPerformance.

In that case I'll go ahead and order the ZZPerformance kit while it's available

So if we dont see any oil as of yet then simply installing the harnesses on top and bottom will suffice correct?

.

Correct. That being said, from the data I’ve seen both the sensors and phasers leak by 70-80k miles. So if you’re close, I’d go ahead and replace them.

bought a kit, figure it's cheap insurance given I'm only at 12k miles but it is a 2017. Does this tend to be more mileage related due to mechanical wear or is it time related like seals going bad?

Well i went to install the ZZPerformance cam sensors kit and the fcpeuro sacrificial harness today and pulled out the plugs that go into the sensors and what do you know, it had some oil on it. i then pulled out the sensors and noticed some oil on them as well. my question is are the sensors inside supposed to have oil on them or are they supposed to be dry as well? obviously the plugs are not supposed to have oil and indicate a leak from the seals but once the new sensors are bought and installed then its ok for the sensors inside to be oily right? Back to fcpeuro i go...

I would say mileage related since most are showing signs of leaking after 50k

Oil in harness, not new news.

Affects M274/276/278/157 engines.

Fixable with new sensors and magnets. Pigtails are a bandaid and do not address the root cause. But are helpful.

Unfortunately even the newest revision parts still leak. So I would not say it is entirely “fixable” and the pigtails are just another layer of protection.

Makes me feel a little better, though I'll be checking for oil in the connectors when I install the pigtails anyway.

At 12k miles I can easily justify the $100 to throw the pigtails at it instead of adding pigtails, sensors, and magnets if I don't really need all of it.

Well obviously I'm a newbie and an idiot because I can't even get the electrical connectors to release. What is the trick? Stand on 1 leg and stick my tongue out

unlock by pushing the white pin away from the plug with a flat head carefully then press down on the released pin and pull away.

YOU Sir are a Gentleman and a Scholar! I've been dinking around with those connectors for 2 hours. I now have 4 sacrificial pigtails installed. Fortunately no oil in any of them. Only 49k on my S550 so that may have helped.

Thank you very much!!

you're welcome. Did you install only the sensor harness or only the magnet? I would do both if I were you.

I installed the pigtails on the magnets only. it appears that the sensors are 3 wire and the sacrificial pig tails for the madness are 2 wire

the sensors are more prone to leaking vs the magnets so I would add the pigtails on the sensors as well.
