Funny, I was talking to a Bentley salesman the other day and he said he was annoyed that the C and E class cars look so much like an S. Looks like they're at it again.
And with all that dazzling new stuff inside you still get a four-cylinder engine, a small back seat and a stiff and noisy ride. For $70+k, I'd much rather have a nice low-miles S560!

In my opinion, I hope not. I think the engineers have went more to the tech side and away from beautiful interiors and materials. I would appreciate better balance of a true luxury interior Vs Tesla like screens - after all, the S Class has always been the pinnacle of luxury in addition to groundbreaking tech. But, going too far in either direction misses the mark. The W223 really rides the line, an interior like this tips the balance for me. I enjoy ‘driving’ a car that looks and feels nice - the screen functions are mostly difficult to use while driving for anything other than simple tasks. Sure, I like playing with the tech while I’m waiting somewhere in the car, but I buy my cars for driving - I have enough devices with screens in my life.

Mercedes cars have looked basically the same for a long time. I mistake C Classes for W222 S Classes all the time. In the 90s the sedans really just looked small/big/bigger too.
Designers dont design stuff consumers don't want to buy. Technology and connectivity is VITAL to younger generations of people...its more important to them than how a car drives or looks or how well made it is. Thats just a fact, so you cant blame designers for designing cars for the next generation of people who are going to buy them. This car is designed for 35 year olds and younger...
The actual truth is, consumers actually like these new designs...and you guys are just behind the times.

MB does interiors that no other German competitors does I guess that alone is enough to attract buyers, sprinkle some ambient lighting and you got customers.
Ignoring the screens for a second and just to talk about the capacitive stuff, I think most of us on the forum hates it, the reviewers hate it and I think the consumers too. A journalist or was it someone on the forum asked the designer is it cheaper to do it this way they said no, (well I obviously expected that answer) which begs the question why spend more money on something that will just make your customers hate? Then there is all the gloss piano trims, especially being on a high traffic area where they put these, like the seat controls, how was that a good idea? It starts to really make you scratch your head, what is MB trying to accomplish here?

Personally, I hate screens in cars especially the touchscreens (or could they very least keep the rotary knob?), they are distracting, glares in the sun along with fingerprints (could MB at least put a oleophobic coating on it?) For those who work in an office, to face a screen all day and when you leave for work, you are again blinded by the bright lights of screens when you drive home. I wonder if they will put one of those bluelight filters, assuming that does anything?

It's evident their target are these people in their 20s/30s with high screen times. If you want a more analogue system you have to go to BMW. I hated the hyperscreen when it first came out but after spending time with it in my cousins EQS I love it, have told my dealer I want an e class when the hybrid comes out. Unfortunately we're getting older whilst everything else is getting newer, if we don't adapt we'll get phased out as well.
