Car completely shut down, help!

Car completely shut down, help!
Hey guys, was working on the car without the engine on and the doors open for a while (30-45 mins) and the car started beeping at me for a few mins and completely shut down before I could react. Said COMAND will shut down in 3 minutes a few times and then it completely shut down and won't react to anything. The taillights stayed on when it shut down which was odd. The battery is brand new but maybe it got drained down? Wondering if anyone experienced this before? I disconnected the negative to get the taillights to turn off. When hooked negative back on they stayed off. Now not sure what to do to bring it back to life? Will try to charge it tomorrow.

First step would be to check battery.
You might have discharged it if you have an alternator problem.

Dead battery. Same thing happened to me a couple of months ago. Sitting in a parking lot and had the doors open for a long time. I had to jump her to get her started and then replace the battery a couple of weeks later.

Problem solved. Turned out my brand new battery got drained and didnt want to start, even after hooking it up to a charger. Problem was i didnt drive the car long enough to fully charge the new battery after I installed it and then started working on the car with the doors open and it completely drained it. Went to Costco and got it exchanged. All good now.

Nice to see it was that easy . I have just noticed your thread and I would recommend a battery related issue as well .Honestly, it's still kinda weird because new battery should have lasted longer to me unless your leave your headlamps on for many hours

I thought so too but mine was fairly new and the same thing happened.i also ran the battery down on my bike because I left the flashers on. I had to replace that battery too. But I honestly don't remember batteries in my old cars from the 90's dying so fast.
