No, you don't. The name is just a friendly display name. Internally the phone has a unique address/device ID by which it is recognized. I often reset the network settings on my iPhone after a major iOS update and among other things this sets the name back to the default name and I have to change it back to my name. It displays the new name next time it connects to the car. This is actually how I often remember that I forgot to change the name back after the reset, when the phone suddenly shows up with a different name in the car.
