Yet another brake thread but have questions for others who have used non oem parts
I normally buy my parts through Amazon. I need rear brake rotors and pads. C1 concepts are listed for under 200 for a kit with pads and drilled rotors seems like a good deal? Anyone tried C1 concepts? They don’t come with the wear sensors would the rear brakes on a 2018 s560 even use rear wear sensors? I heard it’s just the amg cars that have rear wear sensors and my rwd car only has front sensors that plug in?
I believe I can reuse the front rotors as they were replaced the first brake job 40k miles ago and are not warped and look smooth. I’m thinking about using hawk brake pads which are around 120 for the pair and include the wear sensors plus hardware. Anyone tried the hawk pads? Would I be better off using oem rotors in the rear? I can get an oem kit but it’s over 400 dollars more. Id hate to have the C1s go bad within the first year or something. I’ve got a Indy shop that says they can do the brakes for 250 an axle so it’s gonna be around 500 labor. Seems kinda pricey but the area I’m located in is more money on everything.
The other option would be a power stop full kit which is around 1000 dollars including front and rear rotors and pads front and rear. A little more money but at least I’d be replacing the front rotors too. Maybe there’s another seller that’s less than Amazon for the power stop kit? With the power stop kit is everything included that would be needed? I’m nervous the c1 concepts kit may not come with hardware as I’ve read a lot of reviews that people said there was no hardware even though the description says hardware included.
Also it’s probably a good idea to bleed the brakes at the same time doing pads and rotors? Currently the pedal feels kinda soft. I’ve got around 5/10s left on the pads now but just don’t like the feel of the pedal plus I’m getting tired of brake dust on the wheels so thinking about going ceramic pads.

I would buy everything from Rock Auto. I have only used non OEM brake parts on my last few S classes with great success. OEM parts are a rip off when the end result is exactly the same for non OEM.

Times are changing! First time I hear someone who uses Amazon as their primary source for parts.
I do not know that brand, it is suspeciously cheap do make sure they have good reviews as this is a heavy car and bad rotors can result in additional bills.

Here's what I put on my car in back:
I may be wrong, but I really doubt there's much difference in rotors. As long as they're the right dimensions, have good corrosion protection and are balanced, they're pretty simple devices.
Not only that, but I think the 'hardware kits' are mostly unnecessary. The retainers and pins are pretty durable, unless you're in some kind of severe duty or winter conditions, I doubt they'll need replacing.

My independent mechanic reccomended OEM rotors, and thats what I used alongside aftermarket ceramic pads. The pads he used aren't available to consumers directly or I would share of course...

I do think there's *significant* markup on OEM stuff, but I am always suspicious of anything that seems too cheap to be true. The money on these things is in the quality control, i.e. material makeup, machining tolerances, balancing etc.
Powerstop is a big enough company that they have enough to lose by putting out a bad product, that I trust their stuff. I'd honestly use the higher end part store rotors (if they had them for our cars) before I bought cheapos on Amazon. More of a path of recourse if something goes wrong. Then again, their higher end rotors aren't that much cheaper than the OE ones at FCP.
Pads are another story. I probably wouldn't throw just anything on the car, but the markup for OE pads is insane and they aren't even ceramic.
Three things I try to never cheap out on: Brakes, tires, and steering. The three things that will keep me from crashing. That said, I wouldn't buy Mercedes parts just for the sake of using Mercedes parts.

972 bucks including shipping less money than Amazon. Well worth it. Better than c1 concepts I believe although more money. Hopefully the brakes will go 50k miles this time around.

Just had break pads, rotors and sensors replaced on my 2019 S450 4matic after 37,500 miles at an indie shop here in the Boston area. About $1700 in OEM parts, $600 in labor and $100 in taxes.

that’s actually a really good deal. Mine will be around 1500 when all is said and done with the aftermarket power stop brakes. Although the power stop brakes are considered an upgrade with 20 percent better stopping power than oem and no more brake dust and supposedly have a longer service life if bedded in properly.

I suppose it makes sense if you don't want to do the work yourself, but even 1700 for parts seems steep albeit for OEM. The OEM pads are good in terms of performance but man they throw a lot of dust.

Yeah I had to get away from the dust. The ceramic pads the car stays so much cleaner.
