Struts; upper and lower control arms and shafts and bushings; upper

Do they also waive the diagnosis cost if they perform the repair? I would assume so, as that is pretty standard.

Yes, they do waive the cost when the repair is completed.

“Waive the cost of diagnosis.” Yeah right! I always let people know that diagnosis is money spent. You PAY for the technician’s years of experience and his abilities at making effective use of his investment of six figures in tools.

Any dealership and many independent repair shops have ‘Chassis ears’ which help a lot when finding the source of noises.

A good service advisor will work well with the tech to get everything needed covered by your extended warranty with one deductible.

Hint: Virtually all extended warranties pay for diagnosis.

Question... Is the YouTube video of your actual car? If so how did you get the AMG cluster in your S550?

It is my actual car (S550 4matic w/ AMG sports package).
You can flash your vehicle to have the AMG or Maybach instrument cluster. @BenzNinja
I prefer the looks of the AMG instrument cluster, and you get a little more data.

Of course they have chassis ears. Someone is being lazy and doesn’t want to bother his techs to do their job and accurately diagnose a problem.
They are perfectly capable of finding and fixing the noise.

Yes; you want it fixed.

If any of you are aware of a fix for this noise I need to go after it in my 222 S-65. Not going to replace ABC struts for a pair of bushings though.

The dealership got back to me and confirmed it is the right strut making the noise. However, since it's just a noise and there is no physical damage to the strut, my warranty company has denied the repair.

Any ideas on how I can get the warranty company to replace it proactively knowing it's going to fail since it's making a noise?

This strut noise will probably not lead to a failure for a long time. I had one that did the exact same thing on my 2015 S550 4Matic with AMG appearance package. I swapped it for a new reman unit because the noise was bugging me. Strut was 450.00 and I did the swap myself. Very easy to do with a jack and some hand tools. Or you could pay an indy to do the work. Dealer will want 1500 for the same thing. This is why I do not have any ELW, they will always find a way to weasel out of the claim.

I have exactly the same problem on my 2015 S550. Replaced both struts yesterday and the issue is still there. How did you make out?

The struts were fine, it's the boot on the strut that becomes stiff over time and makes the noise. Especially if the car is low mileage. Noise isn't hurting anything and new struts won't fix the issue. Frustrating.

That is crazy and frustrating to say the least. I have replaced my struts last night with brand new ones, including the new boot on them. This is what dealer told you?

Yes... directly from the dealer and they said the warranty will not cover the replacement of the struts because they are working as designed.

Wrong. You pay the professional to figure out what is wrong. If they are telling you the cost is ‘waived’ it is getting cooked into the repair to hide it.

My 2014 s63 is making the same noise and I an at 53k miles. It's almost like a honk or specific audio tone that is caused by large sudden movements in the left front suspension.

I am well aware of the cost of new struts and will live with this until the strut actually fails. My experience tells me the car could do this for years before it actually gets serious.

To update. Over the weekend I had a friend come over and help me diagnose the thump in the front end. Work I have done so far: Replaced stabilizer bar links and bushings. Replaced front shocks. Thump still there. Front end is rock solid, no movement anywhere. I have raised the car on the ramps so I can get under it. Had a buddy open the front door and push against the roof line to rock the car to mimic the car motion. And, the thump was there. I went under the car and was able to see and feel where the problem was. Well, brand new stabilizer bar links were *****. Felt the play and knock in both sides, which I could not reproduce with the wheels up in the air. So, burned money on the new shocks, stabilizer bar bushings and stabilizer links. Links I am going to try to warranty and new ones I have ordered from the dealer. Stay tuned for the update tomorrow.

My car makes the same noise on the driver side. Woowoo sound.
I thought of replacing the air strut. So glad other people also have these issues. Ordering my links from FCP right now. $52 per side. Nice....

Are we sure that the links will cure the "woowoo" sound and not the more normal clunks that bar end links make? Had volvos here for 2 decades and am well aware of end link noises ....the woo sound in the video at the start of this thread does not sound like links to me.

I have a 2014 <50,000 Mi. This is the exact noise only over dips. Anyone confirm the fix for this specific noise?

I took off my 20's and put the my OEM 19s back on due to some nose like this. The car rides like **** IMO on 20's esp on LOW PROFILEs. It's just to heavy of a car. I had similar noises coming from bumps on the interstate. However it was not as bad as what your sounds like, yours sounds more like the rubbing noise like you stated , my was a thunk. lol
