2015 S550 purchase questions
Hi, I'm considering purchasing a 2015 S550 with 44,000 miles on it. It's a one owner, clean Carfax vehicle. I test drove it a few days ago and it looks to be in excellent condition. I'm coming from a C43 and have no experience with S Class cars. How important is it that I ask to do a pre purchase inspection at a Benz dealership? I know that motor mounts can go, what else should I be looking for on a 2015 with 44,000 miles? Any help is much appreciated.

At that mileage I would check the following:
Motor mounts
Oil leaks
Suspension bushings for cracks
Brake wear
Tire wear
All basic stuff. There are no common issues at that low mileage, but age is creeping up.
Once you get it you will need to add harness extensions for the cam phasers and sensors, but that's a relatively cheap and quick fix ($150 and 1 hour of your time).

The M278 is notorious for oil leaking from these areas, traveling through the engine harness, and ruining the ECU. It is a very costly repair (engine has to come out to replace the harness) but a very cheap preventative move.

Well, the PPI went well. Only thing they found was a fault code for CD player that the dealer said the will take care of before I take delivery. Car is really clean, has a few nicks here ant there but they are all in paint protection film. 2015, 4 matic, 1 owner, clean carfax, 44,000 miles. Paid $38,500. Seems like a fair price compared to what I've seen. Thoughts? Comments? Anything is helpful. As I said, I've never had an s class before. CARFAX One-Owner. Clean CARFAX. Also, please get the harness extensions I referred to. If you search around the forum you will find more info. It affects all M278s.

Just to pile on a little, congrats, sounds like a really nice car! I had a C350 before and the S class is really a whole different world. I thought about going to an E but glad I skipped that and went right to the flagship model, it's that good.
Do you have the 360 deg surround camera, that's really helpful in tight spots since the car is so big.

Following - I'm considering a very similar purchase - 2015 - clean carfax - dealer service history - around 50k miles. Coming from a W212 that has been very solid. Nervous about the step up but very tempting.

Finally picked it up today. It poured all day, so no pics to post yet. Im pretty disapointed to find out that mbrace isnt supported on it. I used the remote start a lot on my 2017 C43. Anyone know of a reliable aftermarket remote start option?

Ryre/jimh6,
Read the threads about oil in wire harness prevention, front cam covers oil leak/rear cam plug oil leak, unplug oil pressure solenoid, air box spacers, oil filter housing seal, oil/coolant cooler seal, turbo coolant lines, electrical grounds, silitec/nanoslide cylinder liners, cam correction factor, motor mounts and vacuum lines/oil separator to get a good grasp on this engine. All cars have inherent issues but at least most of these issues can be taken care of. M278 engine can be a beast of an engine if you take care of it. Get Benz-ninja for at home/on the road custom coding/diagnostic assistance and avoid the dealership.

I linked a different seller. The 1st linked seller is still at $99. Interesting that when one looks at the 1st linked seller's sales history on ebay they used to sell them for $24 then bumped price to $99.

op, read up on this issue, many here worry about it. It can be inspected. Make sure it’s inspected before any warranty runs out. It is a must, or buy an extended warranty and then inspect.
