LETTER FROM MERCEDES BENZ ABOUT EXTENDED WARRANTY ADDENDUM
I've got a 2016 GLE63-S and have been chasing a random misfire since last August (2024). After throwing coil packs, fuel injectors, and spark plugs at the issue for months, the dealership FINALLY did a compression test and discovered leaking exhaust valves on none other than Cylinder #5. I was totally unaware of the exhaust valve issue until only a few days ago when a deep dive online led me to this thread.
On another thread, a forum member posted a pdf of the letter that went to dealerships dated March 2023, acknowledging the issue and extending the original manufacturer's warranty to 10 yrs / 120k miles for affected 2016 models. My car has a factory warranty date of Sept, 2015 and currently shows 51k miles - both well within the 10 yr / 120,000 mile warranty extension for this known issue. I have attached the Dealership letter to this post for reference.
Dealership told me it would be $12,600.00 to repair - and mentioned nothing at all about this known, covered issue. After my own research, I forwarded the pdf. of the 'dealership' letter from MB to my service advisor. Now they are telling my that there is a VIN cutoff for model year 2016 and that my car 'might' not be covered - even though it clearly has the precise symptoms and root cause described by MB. My SA is also saying the coverage only applies to people who ponied up for 'extended' warranty. We bought the car certified from this dealership who originally in-serviced the vehicle and sold it to its original owner.
I am focused on the language of the letter to the consumers that states: "This extension of the Mercedes Benz new vehicle limited warranty applies to these vehicles regardless of ownership."
My reading of this statement, along with the letter that went to the dealerships seems pretty clear - MB is extending the original factory warranty and the extension is not dependent upon either being the original owner or prior purchase of 'extended' warranty.
I feel like the local dealership is overtly trying to screw me and having a pdf of the letter that went to consumers would be nice to have when the eventual sit-down with the service manager occurs.
Thank you all very much.

At your suggestion, I just got off the phone with Mercedes USA HQ, opened up a file, got everything documented and they are 'escalating' my file to the next level in the bureaucracy.
The temptation to unload this vehicle - along with my GTS coupe - and go to the local Cadillac dealership to buy a V series escalade and sedan is real...
