Should i Buy S500 w222 Plug In hybrid?

Hi al!

I currently own a 2015 BMW X5 M50D - 381hp / 800nm. Long stoey short i had a lot of issues with the car that (spun bottom end bearing, has to buy new crankshaft) have now been fixed but i have honestly lost faith in the car. I dont thiknk you guys get this diesel version in tbe USA…

I have been offered a 2015 S500 plug in hybrid for my car and i am seriously considering swapping it. I really like the merc interior and the supreme quality.

It worries me that the s500 is on currently 151k miles and a possibility hybrid system failure in the near future…

Are there people that own s500 hybrid, can you share your experience?

Another thing is that the car has ceramic break discs? No idea why someone would soec an s500 with ceramic discs but they have done it! How expensive are the ceramic discs and what is their life expectancy ? I appreciate ir very much depends on the driving style..

Is the v6 in these reliable? What is the timing chain interval change?

Thank you in advance!

I would investigate the cost to replace the hybrid battery and yes the ceramic brakes (odd to be on a hybrid) are expensive to replace. Do a search for AMG brake replacement to get an idea.

Agreed
Also, not 150k miles without spotless maintenace and repair records... Even with that you are in for some expensive repairs.... Any car with 150k miles Is at risk of expensive repairs.car... thats Any car any make.... 300,000 mile volvo honda and mercedes without major work are not the norm...

How long would you plan to own it?....average miles per year?

Good luck.. The S500 hybrid is a wonderful car.. Just be careful with this particular circumstance.

I have a 2016 S550e plug in hybrid with ~50k miles on it. I purchased it when it has 16k miles and it has been driving great outside of the regular maintenance on it like tires, battery etc. My motivation to get the plug in was to get the carpool sticker that worked out great until it lasted. I haven't had any hybrid battery replacements or other things you mention. The hybrid battery is advertised to go 18 miles but only gives me about 10-11 on a single charge.

Hey cblueG, how would you describe the brake pedal feel of your car?

Seems hybrids and EVs sometimes have strange, non-linear brakes ... I test drove a EQS a while back and using the brakes felt like stepping in play doh

I am pretty uneducated when it comes to these sorts of things so please take it with a grain of salt. I can only provide a comparative quality with other cars i have. I have a G63 where the brakes feel a bit harsh and a tesla model y where the breaks feel that i have to push too much to apply them. On the s class they feel pretty good and responsive. definitely not play-dohy. sorry i know this might not be too helpful

Based on numerous reviews the EQS has a unique brake feel. For what ever reason the EQS moves the brake pedal during regeneration. The reviewers in general said it was not confidence inspiring.
