Looking for input S450

Hi all,

I'm about to purchase a CPO 2018 S450 4Matic to replace my 2010 S550 4Matic unless someone has horror stories to tell me about this vehicle.
I have searched the forums and online info and have not found anything to scare me away yet.
What am I missing? Are there things I should look for when I inspect the car?

Thanks in advance.

MY 18 S450V RWD Diamond White
My 2018 S450 RWD has been rock solid. Everything works as it should. The V6 moves the car quicker and faster than I am comfortable with. Make sure it has been maintained per MB specs and has 19” rims.

These are good cars and the M276 V6 engine has a good record. Enjoy it!

A very experienced M-B tech told me that he would have no hesitation of picking a well-spec'd S450 over the V8 any day.

MB’s
S450 has a solid engine. The W222 S Class overall has been very reliable.

I have a 2019 S450 and its been great, when searching for a new car I drove both 450s and 560s.
My anecdotal observations:
  • The 560 has more oomph (it's a bigger V8 engine, so of course)
  • The base leather in the 450 is a lower spec than that in the 560, but it's still super comfy!
For me, everything lined up right for the 450, over the 560s that I was looking at. If I were buying again, I would look at both and find the one that best fits my needs 450 or 560.

The M276 is notably reliable, though it shares one issue with the M278. Oil can leak into the wiring harness. This issue can be easily remedied through pigtail extensions. (25 minute job & anyone can do it.) If I could buy a w222 over again, I'd go for an S450!

From what I understand that V6 has a stellar record. My neighbor is a master tech for MB and said he only wanted the 450 in his GLS. Personally, for me, I will always buy the V8 until it’s no longer produced. I love the pick up and the gas mileage isn’t bad. I feel like cars at this price you may as well go for it all.

you’ll be happy with the V6. My wife and daughter have MBs, both with a V6. I have driven a V8 since high school, so call me sentimental.

Totally agree. The muted growl as she works through the gears puts a smile on my face.

Happy with 2019 S450

I've been a happy owner of a 2019 S450 for the last 2 years. The car has been solid through and through. My only complain has been the weak plastic rear seatbelt loops. They break too easily. Find yourself an experienced indie MB mechanic and keep up with oil change every 5K miles.

I have 20" AMG wheels on my 2019 S450. I changed the RF tires to Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 after 5 side bubbles on the FRs. The ride quality is much better.

I've owned this one with very minor issues covered by warranty. I'm at 65K and going strong. Selling mine to get a 2020 560.

I have a 2017 S550 4-Matic with the OEM 20" AMG style wheels. Just left the wheel shop $1K lighter in the wallet this morning. You WILL get bent rims, just a matter of how bent and how you feel about it. I had vibrations in the 60-80mph range. In the year since I bought the car I've lost two tires because of hitting potholes. Sorry to sound dramatic, but it is what it is; short sidewall and heavy car are not a good combination. All 4 of my rims were bent, the rear right being the worse, and my left front had a crack. All repaired and the car drives as smooth as silk up to 100MPH.

Buy the car then buy some 19" wheels and tires, you'll be glad you did.

Back to OP's original topic.

I'm with Mason. I'd like an instruction on these pigtails too. Sounds like cheap insurance!

Jose has some great videos on preemptive maintenance on his 2017 S550. I believe he has 2 videos showing how to add the pigtail extensions

Video Titles:
"Mercedes major issue you can fix yourself - Prevent Mercedes Benz Issues Pt 1"
"How to prevent serious damage to your ECU, Mercedes oil leak"

So I watched the videos and looked up the part number (A2711500156).
According to what I find, this part will work for the V8, but says it does not fit the V6.

Can anyone else give some info from experience?

Thanks

best is to ask ZZPerformance in ebay, they answered my questions very quickly...
also I want to know if theses 8 or 6 cables all we need to extend or there are other cables go to ECU and we need to extend them too?
