CarPlay voice guidance volume LOUD

MB volume is fine. If I use CarPlay the volume when giving commends and getting feedback is too loud. If I adjust volume on steerrring wheel it forgets and next time is LOUD again. I tried adjusting the MB sound setting. It doesn’t seem to help.

This only started a few weeks ago so maybe an Apple software update?

PS Just spent 30 hours driving the S560. Drive Assist really makes a difference. Much less tiring but I could use a butt massage.

I've had this happen. The BT/CarPlay volume control with the iPhone is confusing and not fully clear to me, but it seems relative to the volume on the phone itself. Once your phone is connected to the car, use the phone's volume buttons to set the base level. This seems to work for me. I just set the volume on the phone to the proper level. Adjusting the volume in the car only seems to be temporary. It resets back to the phone volume level next time. So if it's too loud then just lower the volume on the phone. Also, sometimes the phone volume resets after an update, so you have to set the level again.

I do seem to get different volume levels in my car vs other cars. I just had a BMW rental over the weekend during a trip to Seattle. I used wireless and wired CarPlay the entire time and had no issues. BMW has a much better CarPlay implementation than MB and other makes. I particularly had issues with CarPlay in newer MBs with MBUX, Audis and VWs. It generally works well with the COMAND NTG 5.5 system that you and I have in our cars, but as said, occasionally the volume gets screwed up and I have to fix it again. The other day it actually went the opposite for some reason and it was so low that I could barely hear anything until I realized that the base volume on the phone somehow was set close to zero. Not sure how that happened.

I think you have to adjust the volume as it’s talking to you. You have to be quick. Otherwise it adjusts radio volume or unrelated volume.

Yes, that, too.

I am not 100% certain the problem is fixed permanently, but after upgrading my iPhone 13 Pro Max from 16.7 to 17.0.3 iOS, I no longer appear to have the problem of overly loud Siri and/or Voice Guidance Volume. I tried after 17.0.3 and Voice Guidance Volume is lower, more like what you would expect both over Bluetooth and over CarPlay using a USB cable. I will keep playing with the volume controls.
