I did this a few years ago, night and day difference. You cannot really do much though if you have the High End Burmester. Standard is a piece of cake though.
Hi,
Has anyone added a sub woofer in their trunk?
I'm looking for suggestions to complement my factory Burmester system.
I am thinking the same ... I ma not impressed with the standard Burmester system in S500 at all ... I have a Focal PSB200 8″ Passive Subwoofer + Focal FPX 5.1200 5 Channel Amplifier so might use them for first improvement ...

Here is a the thread with some info on my previous set-up. I believe the sub out wires from the Burmester amp that you want to grab are the blue and white with blue stripe pair coming off the amp. You will need an Amp, LOC, and sub with enclosure of some kind. Install is easy as you can grab the 12V and ground off the battery in the trunk and 12V switched from the cig lighter outlet in the trunk as well. The factory amp is in the drivers side rear trunk side area. If you remove all of the trunk panels you will find it pretty easy.

Thank you for the info. Forgive my ignorance, what is an "LOC". Is that a speaker to line level converter?
Correct, it takes the higher current speaker level output from the factory amp and converts it to a very low voltage signal for the sub amp to use as a signal. Audio Control makes an excellent unit for around 100 bucks that includes some cool features like the ability to create a switched 12V circuit based on signal input so you do not need a seperate 12V switched circuit. Senses signal from the factory amp and turns the sub amp on based on this.

Easiest way is to look in your trunk. If you do not have a subwoofer behind the drivers side wheel well than you have standard. High End has a LOT more speakers.
These are the 3 easiest ways to visually distinguish the Burmester "High End" Sound System from the standard Burmester in the W222.
1. The speakers on the front doors have the words "High End" written on them:
2. The tweeters on the front doors are motorized, silver (not black), and they feature prominently as part of the ambient lighting:
3. The trunk-mounted dedicated subwoofer, on the left wall of the trunk:
There are additional cues, but these are the easiest to identify. Good luck!
