I don’t use the cover on the cup holder. It seems to be stuck. Don’t you just push it backwards then it comes forward? Or do you pull it? Strange problem to have really.
I havent shut mine in ages also and it got stuck, I actually forgot how to even shut it. At the circle there’s the little textured portion inside the holder area, press back towards the warning lamps symbol and it should pop up and slide towards the dash. If it’s stuck, pry a bit the little triangle to the right (or same location left side) at the same time to guide it out.
Thanks very much. I’ll try again but I see a visit to the dealer in my future.
ok I think I understand. Don’t push on the lid. Push where you have it circled?
Edit: I figured it out, thank you. I was pushing on the wrong place. I was thinking of a different car and just pushing in the wrong area. I’m not too proud to admit it.
Now I have to rip off the ugly yellow child safety label.
Where it’s circled, feel around inside the cup holder area, you will feel a textured section that’s maybe two inches x 1/2 inches (this is the bottom of the retracted cover). Press it back in the direction of the emergency flashers button the cover should pop out and close in the direction of the dashboard.
If it’s stuck, use your other hand and pull at the section of the cover where the crude triangle is drawn.

I figured it out. Thank you very much. Why can’t all cars be made the same way?
If you do go to the dealer, be prepared. My cover is doing the same thing. They said the cupholder/sliding door assembly would need replaced to resolve - it was $700+ just for the part. I do have designo piano black, but still…. For $700 I’ll use my finger, but 90% of the time it’s open for a water bottle, phone etc.
PS- tried having them put it through CPO - even though it’s considered “trim” and not covered… but in my experience sometimes the service advisors aren’t 100% savvy on warranty coverage, so I ask them nicely to submit in the event it is covered. In this case, my strategy didn’t work - cupholder door came back as not covered. Conversely,I had LEDs behind door handle out on 3 of the 4 handles. Bulb part cost was nominal, but a bit of a pain to replace as DIY… Also, one of the mirror underside puddle lamps was out. Advisor put all of it through CPO and while they wouldn’t cover the cupholder door, they did cover all of LEDs that were out+ labour to replace - even though bulbs could be considered consumables/wear and tear. Had I not convinced the advisor to try putting it through, I would’ve paid hundreds in labour. If anyone has other successes getting CPO to cover items you expected to be excluded from the warranty, please share.
@frostsdad , try spraying a little bit of CRC contact cleaner or electronic cleaner in along the rails to clean off any residue causing it to stick. Then some lubricant along the tracks.

thank you, I’ll try. I sprayed a very small amount of WD40 without impact - but didn’t want to flood it either. Thx for the recommendation, I was thinking same, it works - just needs lubricated perhaps.

Remember WD-40 is not really a lubricant. The “W-D” in WD-40 stands for Water Displacement, It contains anti-corrosion agents and ingredients for penetration, water displacement and soil removal.
This looks like one of those things that a person who's done it before can free up the lid in like, ten seconds. I was at a Mercedes-certified body shop the other day and asked the rep if they knew how to do this, and he said, oh no, this a mechanical item that would be handled by the dealer's service department.
I leave mine open 100% of the time to use the cupholders, but still would nice to make it close in case I ever wanted to ;-)
Thanks for the tip regarding CRC cleaner@vincheung. I bought a can and I’m going to give it a try. I’ve been using the method of using my index finger on the left bottom underside of the cover to push in, then push down the “notch” (not visible), release - and it closes. I don’t need to close it often but it annoys me that it doesn’t work. Hoping the CRC cleaner works, will let you know. Other than this, the only imperfection in the car are fine scratches on the piano black trim. I’m going to try a high end plastic polish or grand piano polish and see if that helps (will test first on an inconspicuous area.

Thanks for this guidance. I didn't even know that my cover was stuck as I had left it open for a long time. After reading this thread I tried to close my cover and it wouldn't move. So I followed your instructions and it worked right away. Many thanks again.
I used GooGone to get the residue off, but then I had to polish it out with Meguiars Scratch X to get the marring out.
did scratch-x work well for you? Do you have the designo black or another type of trim? Black looks nice but shows every fine scratch. Same as in my wife’s Range Rover. Curious how scratch x worked - I’ve been nervous it would make the scratches worse, so if it worked well and you have the same wood I’ll give it a try.
Have you considered touching base with a shop that installs PPF to discuss some options. Polishing and installing PPF on glossy interior trim came up a number of times on Porsche forums.

I have the dark wood, not the piano black. It worked well, a detailer can polish it out easily too, and PPF is a great idea.
