Drain Pipe Dropped Out While Driving!!!!

Well, the romance with the new (to me) S450 is getting off to a bit of a rocky start.

Driving over a small speed bump today, I heard a light plastic scrape as the right front crossed it (at a very slow speed)..

Knowing that something wasn't right, I stopped and looked under the car, expecting to see the belly pan dragging or some such thing.

What I found was later found to be (by the part number on it - Mercedes Part 222-832-16-90, DRAIN PIPE WHEEL ARCH PASSENGER SIDE, which seems to be a drain pipe in the cowl drain system) hanging out of the bottom of the car behind the passenger side wheel arch..
It had apparently become dislodged from its normal home, and rolled around the belly pan until it came 1/2 out and got stuck. I pulled it out, it appears undamaged, threw it in the trunk, and continued my travel.

Now I'd like to put it back where it's supposed to go, but....

Unfortunately, the breakdown drawing isn't good enough to determine exactly where this part goes, and poking around with a flashlight didn't help at all either.

I'm hoping that someone has dealt with this drain pipe before and can advise where it is supposed to be installed, and maybe the easiest way to get to it.

Yes, the car is still under the original 4 year warranty, so I can take it to the dealer, but I don't want to be out of a car for a couple of days if it's a 20-minute fix.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I can help here ..

My 2014 S63 had a mangled inner passenger front fender liner that kept getting hung up on the tires at full lock (parking). So I ordered a new one from the dealer and took it to my buddy's shop for installation. As soon as they took the old one out that same part dropped on the shop floor. It must not be secured well from the factory.

Get the car in the air, remove the right front tire and then remove the inner fender liner and you will see where it goes. A pro can have it all apart in 10 minutes.

Good luck !

This is what makes this place such a great resource for we owners!

Thanks a ton, if you ever get to the Charlotte area, I’ll gladly pay the beer!

Not a big issue.
take off fender liner, put some glue on the inside rim of the fallen drain pipe where it connects to the upper drain.
hold till glue is good, put fender liner back on. Line up outlet of drain pipe with cutout in fender liner and gour good to go.
These are not secured to anything and the click attachment is weak.
strong glue must be used to keep them on.

feel free to speed through massive puddle with no issue!

Thanks to TripleDown and vinflouen for their replies.

It was, in fact, about a 15 minute job, most of which was spent Googling the proper jacking points for a W222 (I know now).

You were correct, as soon as I pulled the fender liner back, it was immediately apparent where the drain had escaped from.

I do find it amazing that a company which can produce such a magnificent car, has such a suspect mounting system for this drain.

I added some 3M double-sided tape to the perimeter of the drain tube, then pushed it up over the outlet at the cowl, to try to prevent it from dropping out again.

If this doesn't hold, I'll definitely be headed the glue route in the future.

Thanks again guys!
