2014 s550 exhaust flaps?
Does anyone know how these are meant to operate? (The flaps in each rear muffler)
I thought maybe you push sport or both sport buttons and it opens but no iv only ever seen it closed. Obviously I cant see the flap while WOT without a camera back there....?
So can anyone explain the correct operation of this? Its clearly vacuum operated.

Found this thread someone says the flap doesnt open until up in the rpm range in either mode. But in sport mode it opens earlier....

I'll have to figure out which module controls it and see if I can actuate them with my scanner. Just to check they actually work which I suspect they do but you never know.

I do know that the 2014-2017 W222s have vacuum actuated exhaust valving (with electronic valving found in the face lift models) controlled by a solenoid valve. The exhaust flap position is normally adjusted according to speed and engine mode. Done via commands relayed from the ECU to the solenoid valve which then modulates how much vacuum is allowed to reach the flaps. The solenoid is an electro-mechanical device and so controllable by electronic signals from the ECU or from Renntech's module. I don't know if all this really answers your question or not. Hope so.

Definitively? I truly don't know exactly how it works. ![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
