My run flat experience, so far

I'm on my 6th s class-- all bought lightly used and run to about 90,000 miles. When I got this 2015 it came with new run flats which were my first. I wasn't too happy to have no kind of spare. However, I hadn't had blowout trouble with an s class. I had always seen pretty poor mileage experience with every previous version. I almost always had the MB recommended tires installed but was getting about 10,000 miles before they were shot.

My new-to-me 2015 came with 13k miles and I had to get new tires at a little over 40k. So, almost 30,000 miles. Pretty happy.

Anyone else have similar experience?

My previous 2015 S550 had the Continental ProContact SSR. The dealer installed them when I bought it. Couple cross country trips and I was happy with them. Maybe 12,000 miles later when I sold it. Still looked new. Ride and noise were fine.

My 2020 S560 has the Michelin Primacy MXM4. At about 6,500 miles now. Ride and noise are fine.

Both MOE. The road surface plays a huge part in noise - near silent on good roads and noisy on others.

I have the Pro Contact SSR, I've had good luck with them, the dealer tells me the fronts need to be replaced so they ordered a new pair and probably do that next week. The rears have about 23k miles on them and the fronts are at 51K miles, so no gripes with these tires.

If you haven't experienced the car without the run flats you don't have any frame of reference. The runflats are fine but regular tires do improve the ride.

I do most of my driving in Florida so the roads are fairly smooth. If I did more driving up north where the roads are bumpy I’d probably think twice about driving on run flats. The other factor though is I’m physically disabled and the run flats have saved me a few times in the past being able to drive to a service facility to get a tire replaced or in the last case getting a tire fixed.

The Michelin MXM MOE came with my CPO in 2019 at 31,000, today I have 43,000 (I know the car doesn't get tons of miles) and they are still at 60% tread, so far pretty happy with wear, but I am thinking I will get non-RFT's next go around.

I think MOE tires are the goldilocks zone to the tires . Those may not become as comfortable as conventional counterparts yet provide better ride quality and drivability when things go wrong .Even you have rft and you encounter a nasty blow out you will need to visit a tire shop anyway .

I just cannot see throwing away tires with life and meat left until their time. then i plan to move off MOE and RFT's to something else a bit more sticky with highest load rating I can find.

For me, I spend the huge amount of money this car cost for its smooth and quiet ride. It sucks to throw tires away for no reason, but it also sucks to spend most of the time I have the car with it on tires that keep it from riding and driving as well as it could. At the end of the day, a new set of tires is about equal to one payment on the car...

well this was my first Mercedes so I am still totally in love every single time I drive the car, so I guess I don't know what i dont know I think it rides like a dream come true. My last car was a 1997 Q45t that I got a little crazy with and sat on coilovers so for me I nearly have to pinch myself every time I drive it that this is my car

5 Year old tires typically start to show signs of dryrot. / cracking...

True if you are parking outside mine car is a garage queen and has seen rain maybe 3 times in last 5 years so they still look pink and healthy, recent trip to the shop for the B service (Indy mechanic not MB dealers) and he told me they look amazing. I figure probably 18 months more and i will replace them. I think 7 years is more the expiration vs. 5
