Driving home today I noticed a red battery light. The battery failed the load test and was replaced about 5,000 miles ago. I took it to the dealer and the battery is fine, they kept it overnight and are going to look at it tomorrow. Drives fine, no messages.
48,600 miles, luckily still under warranty...pretty young for it to need an alternator or something...any thoughts as to what it may be?
I would say alternator as well . Have your dealer check the codes . Sometimes, some ghost codes can be stored in the ECU .We can rule out a bad battery because if it were a battery , the battery message should have been on the display
That's the electrical malfunction warning light or MIL and indicates that the electrical system has detected a problem. Most common cause as said above is a faulty alternator or starter generator, but could also be the battery, cabling or electrical connection. I agree, most likely your alternator died or a connection came loose and your battery stopped getting charged. The low battery warning would have probably popped up next.
OP is the alternator charging the battery? If so there is a better than average chance that our 'little friends' have chewed up wiring for what will be a painful repair. If this is the case ring the insurance company and pony up a deductible to have it fixed right.
MB will come up with a diagnosis. With any luck the alternator has failed and will be taken care of under warranty.
Not even a little! I would have liked to have heard that they at least tested the alternator...all he said was he tested the battery...Plus they lost two of my underhood clips...
Couldn't understand too much what that guy was saying, is the battery light gone ?
Did he find any codes related to it ?
Was the service manager happy with this ?
I would also avoid this dealership.....
Yep, its gone. There was a code apparently, I think he said it was a bad battery code, but that wouldn't light up the red battery light, it would light up the yellow light...no mention of him testing the alternator...
If it were my car, I'd check to see if the alternator is working by checking voltage with the car running. If voltage is over 13, the alternator is working. If not, more troubleshooting is needed.

They also disconnected my dashcam...
In the UK most dealerships and repair shops will always disconnect a dashcam before the car is worked on .
That's fairly standard practice. Recording someone on private property w/o their consent is against the law in most states, so it's illegal for you to have your dashcam record while inside of the dealership. Also, the dashcam and its wiring could be a potential culprit for your issue.
