Oh that smell!

Can someone tell me about the aromatic scents that are in the glovebox of the S Class? I think they are sold on Amazon but which scent is the most liked?

Open the empty and put diffuser fragrance in it instead, twists open, clean with rubbing alcohol, and refill. I was using the plug in "wallflowers" refills from bath & body works, wifey changed hers and mine up with Dipytique & Le Labo diffuser liquids. Any reed style diffuser liquid will work fine.

Are you referring to Glade Plug in wall defuser? The Le Labo diffuser liquids are too expensive at $188 to $268
As far as the Reed style diffuser, is this what you are referring too - something like these? How do these thing work in our cars? In my Mercedes the little jar just sits on a little platform, it doesn’t appear to be connected in anyway?

Those look fine.

I used this brand:
Amazon Amazon

In my case these last forever, almost too long. I'm about to swap bottles to my "more manly" scent that I like but my wife isn't too crazy about:
Amazon Amazon

So, as I asked - how does this work? You just set it in your glovebox and thats it? How is it connected to the air balance? That second one sounds good, I don’t want to smell like a French brothel.
Ok,
I’ll learn to read that little black book.

Those will work, the wall flower plug in refills at bath and body works are like 5 for $20 so you’ll have the opportunity to pick up a number of different scents if you want variety. As for the le labo or dipytique, yes it’s pricey but it’ll last a very long time and their ingredients are top tier.

how does it work, the little holder in the glove box is connected to the tubing of the hvac system. There’s a magnet that’ll open/close the container diffusing fragrance into the cabin via the vents.

Thank you! I was just curious because that little diffuser jar from MB just sits there on that small pedestal with no visible mechanical connection, so I thought it was broke or missing a part/s.

Is there a trick to opening that diffuser jar? Does it just twist or turns off?

there is glue that is making it extra difficult to twist off. Throw on a pair of work gloves w/ extra grip, grab both ends and twist.

The one that came with my car was on so tight I thought it was a one piece unit. Nothing worked to get it turning. I finally had to lock it into my bench vise and use a rubber oil filter wrench to open it. I was surprised the glass didn;t break with all the force needed to open it. After refilling the bottle I didn't use anywhere near that level of force to close it, just hand tightened with gloves. When I bought the second bottle from the auction site, it unscrewed by hand, tight but not enywhere close to the first.

Be sure your bottle has the magnet stuck to the bottom of the bottle. If not, the bottle will slide out. When you install it it does NOT hold the bottle in tightly, it feels like it can slide away anytime. You turn the air freshener on through climate control, I think the choice is right below ionization on the menu. You can choose high/med/low/off. In my case, the girly perfume was far more concentrated than the manly one I bought.

The magnet is simply to hold it in place. When activated a snorkel comes down to suckle vapor from the jar. You can hear the motor from the snorkel touching the jar.

I love Tommy Bahama and run this oil in my jar. Car does smell like a Tommy Bahama store though when it is engaged.

All I can add is YUCK. Inhaling these vapors can be toxic. Inhaling any oil based scent at close range is hazardous to your health. Did you know some of these plug ins can kill animals? I once had close exposure to a popular plugin meaning the residue from use was on a surface and when I touched that surface and rubbed my eye minutes later, my entire face blew up for two days. I’d post the pic but i looked ridiculous and like I was in a brutal fight. It took only ten minutes for that reaction and a literal one second of touch on the surface. No other variables as the was an environment I was in more than one hundred times and the plug in was added that morning. I have no allergies and that is the only time in my 46 years anything like that has ever happen. I also had to remove a popular brand from an air bnb because it caused me to have trouble breathing.

Honest questions below.

Do these newer cars not smell like top quality leather? Is there a smell that is aversive? Do they smell like poop without showering them in perfume? Is it just a certain demographic that doesn’t know what a car should smell like? Do you all have serious body odor issues? Are your floors littered with old moldy clothing and food? Excessive flatulence?

This is one more feature that seems terribly off-putting and ruinous to the luxury car experience.

Please explain?

I like the new car smell. It doesn’t last long enough though. I like the new baby smell almost as much, and it lasts longer.

LOL - I did that once. Never again. I thought I was being nice to her...for her car.....um, yeah. She said she could "taste" the "disgusting odor" (Fireside Mood).

That, oddly is the gift that keeps giving. Somehow it has come up over and over again (generally when guests are at the house for some reason). Every time I go though the car shelf in the garage I see the container....

My car came with a flacon of FireSide Mood, not something that I’d buy for the wife. I have also tried Cotton Mood and Bamboo Mood. Cotton Mood is my go to, it’s subtle and light, Bamboo is more musky, and FireSide more manly!

This is what I use, love it.

I ordered an empty canister that was designed to be opened, it unscrews very easily:

Of the original MB scents I like the Freeside Mood, I also like Pacific Mood. I prefer the Tommy Bahama oil though.

Oh please lol. If you don't like it, don't use it. Its not going to hurt you, to me it improves the luxury car experience. The smell also doesn't linger after the system is off.

Ooh Ooh That Smell…

Whiskey bottles, and brand new cars
Oak tree you're in my way
There's too much coke and too much smoke
Look what's going on inside you

Ooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you

Angel of darkness is upon you
Stuck a needle in your arm
So take another toke, have a blow for your nose
And one more drink fool, will drown you

Ooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you

Now they call you Prince Charming
Can't speak a word when you're full of 'ludes
Say you'll be all right come tomorrow
But tomorrow might not be here for you

Ooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you

Hey, you're a fool, you
Go on stick them needles in your arm
I know I been there before
One little problem that confronts you
Got a monkey on your back
Just one more fix, Lord might do the trick
One hell of a price for you to get your kicks

Ooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you
Ooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you

Hey, you're a fool, you
Go on stick those needles in your arm
You're just a fool, just a fool, just a fool

Now there’s some scents (and smells) to plug into your air freshener!!

In your tirade regarding the use the MB diffuser system, all casinos, hotels, and home owners that also use them. You forgot to tell us to go vegan because its healthier. No one asked for your opinion.

New car smell is actually the smell of the adhesives used in several areas of the car, including the carpet. That's the most toxic thing out there and nobody complains about that
Funny how cows don't smell like leather coats! Why? Because that "wonderful" leather smell is produced by the tanning process. I worked in a rendering plant and tanning plant as a kid...Mike Rowe has NOTHING on me!!
Speaking of BO. I'm 6'4" 300+ lbs, used to be 330lbs so yes, I have BO. I wear deodorant, and cologne, and love to smell good. And by extension I like my car to smell good...it's not a crime!

I still don't have a "favorite" smell, I'll have to stop by a Tommy Bahama store prior to buying the scent.

They actually have several different scents so try them all out. I prefer the original which is what was posted above.

It’s funny, but I do have the lyrics and was going to paste it here. Why do you think I called this post “Oh that smell?”

By the way, I got the jar open. It had clear tape down the middle that was really invisible. I got a half dozen scents, I will try them all.
