New seat covers

If my seats can’t be cleaned I need to replace the covers. Is there any source to get new covers besides the parts department at the Mercedes dealers? Has anyone had any experience replacing seat covers? It’s probably something I definitely need to get an auto an upholsterer to do.

What have you done to clean them to date? Have you tried a detailer, before an upholsterer? Check out The Detail Geek on YouTube and see some of the cleaning jobs that he does.

I took a white micro-fiber cloth and sprayed it with Meguires leather cleaner and the dirt came off where I rubbed an area 6”X10.” I’m clueless how good or how safe this cleaner is for this Mercedes leather in this color when done all over the seat.

The Mercedes dealer wants $200 for doing the entire interior - really cheap so let’s do it. They are short handed and booked so far out they refuse to give me any appointment.

There is a father and son detailer shop up the street. They have a very good reputation and when I showed them they want just $75 for the 2 front seats. Too cheap if you ask me but still . . . .
I made an appointment for last Thursday but the MB dealer still had my car - held up waiting on a part to come in. I have to go there to make another appointment as they don’t answer their phone or answer the messages left on their website.

If the seats (after they are cleaned) don’t come out to my satisfaction I will investigate the possibility of new OEM covers.
In case anyone asks, No, I’m not interested in cleaning these seats myself. I don’t want to guess what it takes to do the best job without good proven experience cleaning this leather

Wouldn’t think you need new leather but if you do try MB of Devon. Not far from you. Nice savings over my local dealer.

Thanks but I don’t see any seat covers - and just to pick something out there are 3 pages for spark plugs, most don’t list any application let alone the S class 4.0. That’s my gripe with these MB OEM sites, you must already know your part number otherwise you’re out of luck.

Wow they do look like they need some love!

Hopefully a professional detail will help. If not, I can only imagine replacement covers will be a grand per seat. I replaced the lower driver's cover in my wife's ML a year ago due to a couple small cracks and that piece alone was $400 and had to come from Germany.

I have had good luck with Griots leather cleaner and conditioner. Restores the nice leather scent as well. This past weekend I also did my annual cleaning of both mine and my wifes steering wheels. For that I use the Griots and a new magic eraser. You have to be very careful with the magic eraser but this combination when done properly completely restores the steering wheel from shiny to brand new looking and feeling, matte colored leather. I rinse out the magic eraser first and then gently wipe down the steering wheel and then follow up with the Griots. You will be stunned at the transformation from white to brown that the magic eraser turns into with even a single pass. You want to apply very light pressure, just enough for the pad to wrap around 40% around the wheel and turn it to a clean spot on the pad after each wipe. When done wipe it down with a microfiber towel and a little bit of the Griots. When it dries it literally looks like a brand new steering wheel with the matte finish. Also works the same on suede if god forbid you have that on your steering wheel. This one part is very hard to keep clean because you are constantly touching it with your skin and the oils just rub into the leather in a very short period of time. Just remember not to scrub with the pad but rather wipe the wheel down. You might try this method with your seats.

They’re a MB dealer, call them and talk to a real person. Order using the website to save.

I used a magic eraser on tan seats in a car that my wife had, the dye from her jeans ended up in the seat booster as she slid in and out. The magic eraser worked great, but like you said, I was gentle with it.

Make up cleaner agents could also work but I don't like to clean up the seats either . Those seats are nice but dirt magnet sadly due to colors . Speaking of porcelain , I don't think those are washing machine proof lol

https://www.usautoseatcover.com/ I'm not sure if they'll have an exact match but prices are better than OEM.

I sent a message and left a request for a return call to these people. It looks like a franchise, but they have mobile service in my area. Sure I could do this myself but I’m concerned I might cause more damage than good to good quality leather, or my thoughts are a professional would do a better job. This is my latest toy so I’ll give it my best effort for care.

Leatherique makes a great leather cleaner, leather conditioner, custom leather dyes, etc. Their products are used by high-end concours owners. I've been using their products for years with excellent results. You can check them out at <http://www.leatherique.com/> Good luck.

The leather cleaning guy called me this morning. His website is full of these successful cleaning jobs like mine, some saying it looked impossible, now it looks brand new! But when he asked me how many miles and what year he’s now concerned the color will come off and he might have to re dye some areas. Either way he’s coming next Monday morning so we shall see.

recommended this the other day to the op. It’s the best there is. Iykyk. I start with a degreaser, then the two part process. Most detailers will never do it as well, without an extremely high cost.

I introduced my detailer to Leatherique, even gave him a partial bottle for him to try and he liked it.

Can you show me the same Leatherique product you are talking about. I see a couple different types with confusing names under “Leatherique.”

The guy from Fibrenew came out this morning. He was confusing. He tested an area and said it was definitely dirty, or it could be the dye coming off. Then he says there is wear to the seat bolsters and maybe it should be dyed.
He is very expensive, $300 per seat bottom to clean, spot dying is $250 per seat bottom. The MB dealer nearby wants $200 to clean the whole interior. A highly respected detailer down the road from me wants $75 for the 2 front seats.

If this guy sounded sure of his abilities - like he does throughout his descriptions in his website I might have given him a shot, but the clincher came at the end when he said “It’s a Mercedes, they are expensive to do anything. Wait until something mechanical breaks and you will see how expensive these cars are!”

I'd run fast and far from that guy! I think my money would go to the dealer for $200.

Mercedes dirt must be more expensive than Chevy or Ford dirt.

The Leatherique products to MAINTAIN and clean are Rejuvenator Oiland Prestine Clean. If you need to re-dye you can send them a sample piece of leather from under the seat and they will match it.

GAHH.com out in California for replacement seat covers. Got my seat covers from them for my '05 E55. Not cheap, but gorgeous covers.

When you mentioned this guy was part of a franchise I knew he wan't the right person for the job. My advice would be to pay $75 for the guy down the street to clean the seats, then you'll know what you're looking at. Dealerships don't have any special techniques or tools, they just go with what's available locally, talent and cost. Only thing better about the dealer is they will take care of you if they break something, I doubt they can do the job as well as a quailty detail shop.

I guess I’ll have to ask the MB parts manager for part numbers, if I can get a driver’s side seat bottom and clean the rest really well. What do you think my chances are they will have a 2018 seat cover in Porcelain?
